British Rail Class 206 or 3R was a type ofDiesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) first created in 1964. They were not 'built' as such but rather re-formed from Class 201 and EPB vehicles for use on Reading-Redhill-Tonbridge (North Downs Line ) services. Six three-car sets were created, numbered 1201-1206.They were commonly referred to as 'tadpoles' due to the difference in body profiles between the 201 and EPB stock.cite book | first = John| last = Glover| authorlink = | coauthors = | year = 2001| month = | title = Southern Electric| chapter = | editor = | others = | edition = | pages = p93| publisher = Ian Allan| location = Hersham| id = ISBN 0 7110 2807 9| url = ] They were replaced by Western Region diesel multiple units in 1979 and these were replaced by Class 165s in the early 1990s.
