Rosina Storchio

Rosina Storchio (1876–1945) was an Italian soprano who starred in the world premieres of Puccini’s "Madama Butterfly", Leoncavallo’s "La bohème" and "Zazà", Mascagni’s "Lodoletta", and Giordano’s "Siberia".

Born in Venice, she studied at the Milan Conservatory before making her operatic debut as Micaëla in Bizet’s "Carmen" at Milan’s Teatro Dal Verme in 1892. In 1895 she made her La Scala debut in Massenet’s "Werther".

Her final public performance was as Cio-Cio San in Barcelona in 1923. She died in Milan.
