Bao is one of the most complex mancala games played of Tanzania. It uses an 8×4 board and 64 seeds, with two seeds for every playable hole.

The object of the game is to empty your opponent's front row, or deprive him of any legal moves, while still protecting your own front row.

There are different variations on setup (example bawo (Malawi), and omweso (Uganda), however the rules governing gameplay are the same for each.
