MangaNEXT is a fan convention focused exclusively on Japanese manga. It is organized by Universal Animation, Inc., the organization behind AnimeNEXT which was launched in 2002. MangaNEXT took place on October 6, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza Meadowlands in Secaucus, New Jersey. This was the site of the first AnimeNEXT in 2002.[1] The official tagline of MangaNEXT is "the next evolution of manga convention".[2]

Differences between MangaNEXT and Anime Conventions

Unlike anime conventions, MangaNEXT is centered around manga and doujinshi exclusively. Artist alley will play a larger role at the event. The manga library will be expanded. Panel programming will become a major focus. The dealers' room will concentrate on selling manga and doujinshi. Cosplayers will have a variety of events to participate in, but there will no masquerade competition. There will only be one video room, as opposed to the multiple video rooms at anime conventions.[3]
