The following is a list of the Governors and Governors-General of New Zealand. The Governor-General is the representative of the Sovereign in right of New Zealand (currently, Queen Elizabeth II). The Governor-General acts as the Queen's vice-regal representative in New Zealand and is often viewed as the "de facto" head of state.cite web|author=

This includes summoning and dissolving Parliament, granting or withholding theRoyal Assent , and ceremonial roles such as making state visits and receiving ambassadors.
