KVOD was originally a commercial radio station, marketing as the voice of classical music for the Denver Metro area on 99.5 FM from 1969 to 1995. In 1995, the station moved to 92.5 FM following the sale of the 99.5 frequency to Tribune Broadcasting who launched a classic rock station at that frequency.
In May 1999, the station was acquired by AMFM Inc. (formerly Chancellor Media Corporation). The new owners announced a format switch to Jammin' Oldies, and moved the KVOD call sign and classical music format to 1280 AM. Eventually, the station at 1280 AM and its extensive music library were acquired by
Colorado Public Radio . The call sign and classical format were moved to 90.1 FM in 2001 [Michael Roberts, [http://www.westword.com/2000-10-12/news/the-missing-linc/print The Missing Linc: Who on earth would want to work at the News these days?
