Farnell (company)

Farnell is a trading name of Premier Farnell, an international company that primarily sells and distributes electronic components and equipment; however, it has expanded its range into non-electronic components and equipment. The company was founded in 1939 in Wetherby and today employs over 1000 people. It was once a significant manufacturer of electronic laboratory and bench equipment, through it subsidiary Farnell Technology but divested itself of manufacturing in 1995.

The company has also been known as "Farnell Electronic Components" (FEC), and this name lives on in the electronics industry as the common abbreviation for this company. The current CEO is Harriet Green.

Farnell supplies a range of electronic components to industry and enthusiasts by delivery, orders for which may be placed by telephone or via the Internet. The company distributes a catalogue to customer account holders annually, commonly known as the 'Farnell Book', detailing the majority of the available range of components; some 431,000 products. It would be good practice, however, to check the availability of components online before ordering, as products may become obsolete and no longer stocked well within the lifetime of the paper catalogue.

Farnell previously offered a 24-hour sales and warehouse service, and was the first company in its field to offer such a service. However, this service was discontinued as of February 2007.Fact|date=August 2007

Farnell's website provides Datasheets for most of the products.

Trivia

The full 2007 catalogue, not including indexes, has 5389 pages in 4 books, and together is the approximate size of a medium breeze block.
