Since some of the authors supporting democratic peace theory argue also (or instead) that war is less likely to happen between two electoral democracies, there may be some overlapping between the two terms in the following discussion. Furthermore, since not all researchers use the requirement that democracies must be well-established, wars between young democracies are included also.
