Events

* The Canadian Golden Centennaires aerobatic team is formed and performs all year to celebrate the Canadian centennial year.
*Boeing opens its biggest factory (largest building by volume) in Everett, Washington. They named it the Boeing Everett Factory.

January

* January 2 - Seven North Vietnamese Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21s are destroyed by F-4 Phantoms of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing in Operation Bolo
* January 2 - the contracts for the development of the Boeing SST and its engines are awarded

February

* February 22 - 845 of the 173rd Airborne Brigade take part in Operation Junction City, the only paratrooper assault of the Vietnam War
* February 26 - US Navy A-6 Intruders of VA-35 drop sea mines in the mouth of the Song Ca and Song Giang rivers

April

* April 10 - Gates Rubber Company acquires controlling interest in Lear Jet Industries
* April 18 - Aeroflot and Japan Air Lines jointly inaugurate a Moscow-Tokyo service
* April 28 - Douglas Aircraft Company and McDonnell Aircraft Corporation ar officially merged to form McDonnell Douglas.

May

* May 18 - NASA announces crew members for the Apollo 7 space mission (first manned Apollo flight): Walter M. Schirra, Jr., Donn F. Eisele, and R. Walter Cunningham.
* May 31 - A USAF KC-135 Stratotanker makes an emergency refuelling of six US Navy jets.

June

* June 4 - Stockport Air Disaster: British Midland flight G-ALHG crashes in Hopes Carr, Stockport, killing 72 passengers and crew.
* June 5 - Boeing delivers its 1,000th jet airliner, a Boeing 707-120B for American Airlines
* June 5-10 - the Six Day War is fought between Israel and her Arab neighbours. In a pre-emptive strike, the Israeli Air Force destroys half of the Egyptian Air Force on the first night. By the end of the six days, 452 Arab aircraft had been destroyed for a loss of 46 Israeli aircraft.
* June 23 - Mohawk Airlines Flight 40 crashes due to a non-return valve failure, killing all 34 passengers and crew on board.

August

* August 7 - Aerolineas Argentinas and Iberia jointly inaugurate the world's longest non-stop air route, between Buenos Aires and Madrid
* August 11 - F-105 Thunderchiefs of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing USAF cut the Paul Doumer bridge, using 100 tons of bombs.

October

* October 3 - William J. Knight sets a new airspeed record in a North American X-15, of Mach 6.72 (4,543 mph, 7,297 km/h). This is the fastest flight that the X-15 will make.

December

* December 31 - the Royal Air Force's V-bomber force begins to be dismantled, pending the deployment of the Polaris missile aboard Royal Navy submarines to act as Britain's nuclear deterrent.
* December 31 - NASA begins initial talks to develop guidelines for a re-usable spaceplane.
