Sesshomaru's mother is a fictional character from the "InuYasha" manga, first appearing in volume 47 at the end of chapter 466. Her real name has never been given and she does not appear in the anime.

Also an inu daiyōkai (great dog demon) like her deceased mate, the Inu no Taishou, and as such can transform into a giant dog demon as well as a more human appearance. Although Inu no Taishou sired a child with his human lover Izayoi, it is not indicative that it would have meant ending a relationship with Sesshomaru's mother as it was normality for those of power to have concubines at the time. [ replaced: it remains uncertain as to whether or not the relationship with Sesshomaru's mother had ended. ]

Sesshomaru's mother holds the Meidō-Seki, which was given to her by the Inu no Taishou. He told her that if Sesshomaru were to come by to use it and "If you use Meidō-Seki Sesshomaru will be faced with great danger... However, you must not feel fear or sadness." This apparently is another of Inu no Taishou's tests for his sons. She uses it to summon a Hellhound that grabs Rin and Kohaku, which then jumps into the Meidou crescent that Sesshomaru created with Tenseiga. Sesshomaru follows after it and kills it, freeing Rin and Kohaku. The three of them continue into Hell, but soon Kohaku and Sesshomaru realize Rin is dead and cannot be revived. Her body is stolen by the Master of Hell, whom Sesshomaru later defeats along with purifying the dead in Hell. Back in his mother's palace, Sesshomaru is lectured by his mother for the need to have a compassionate heart. She revives Rin with the Meidou-Seki but warns Rin can never be revived again with the Tenseiga since it can only revive a person once. She warns Kohaku he too cannot be revived by the Tenseiga.

In demeanor she seems similar to Sesshomaru, albeit with a certain playfulness, and probably influenced his initial attitude towards humans; observing Rin and Kohaku following Sesshomaru, she inquires casually if he is planning to eat them. Observing Sesshomaru's trial after activating the Meidō-Seki, she seems at best only casually concerned about the possibility of his death, and after he refuses the escape route she offers, she seems mildly offended, huffing, "Fine. Ignore your mother's kindness," and complaining that, unlike his father, he "completely lacks any charm." However, after using the Meidō-Seki to revive Rin and seeing Sesshomaru's restrained joy, she remarks Sesshomaru has become like his father in a strange way.

In her true demonic form, Sesshomaru's mother looks much like Sesshomaru, though she is slimmer, daintier looking, and has longer ears and not as much fur. Also, unlike the Inu no Taishou, she is about the same size as Sesshomaru if not slightly smaller.
