- List of InuYasha chapters
This is a list of chapters of the
manga series nihongo|InuYasha |犬夜叉 written byRumiko Takahashi . The series premiered inJapan in "Shonen Sunday " onNovember 13 ,1996 and concludedJune 18 ,2008 . The chapters are also being published byShogakukan in collected volumes, with the first released in May 1997. As of July 2008, 54 volumes of the series have been released in Japan.Viz Media licensed the series for an English translated release inNorth America . The first volume was released in March 1998. At the time, manga was normally published "flipped" to conform to the American convention of reading books from left to right. This resulted in the individual pages beingmirror ed from the original, so the images seen are also mirrored leaving right-handed characters appearing to be left handed. Though Viz has since stopped flipping its manga releases, as "InuYasha" was already well into printing by the time this change was made, it continues to be released in the flipped format. New volumes of the series are released quarterly, and as ofJuly 8 ,2008 , thirty-four volumes have been released.Viz Media is also releasing a separate series of "manga" volumes, called "ani-manga", which are derived from the anime episodes using colored frames from colored frames. These volumes are slightly smaller than the regular manga volumes, are oriented in the Japanese tradition of right to left, feature new covers with higher quality pages, and a higher price point versus the regular volumes. Each ani-manga volume is arranged into chapters that correspond to the anime episodes rather than the manga.

Summary = Kagome and InuYasha return to the Feudal era and discover that Yura has decapitated a group of rogue samurai. Yura seizes InuYasha with the hair she controls and begins taunting him with insults. Kagome's sacred arrow ruptures Yura's "nest", a giant hair ball containing the heads (or skulls) of the people whose hair she is manipulating. Yura tries to incinerate Kagome (who is saved by InuYasha's cloak). InuYasha and Yura wound each other severely, but neither is disabled. Kagome uses her arrow to break a skull which emits hairs which lead to Yura's hands. Yura tries desperately to stop Kagome, but Kagome then breaks a comb that is inside the skull. Yura then dissolves to nothing — her soul was in the comb. Kagome recovers the jewel shard that Yura stole; and InuYasha calls her by her name for the first time indicating that he is beginning to accept her. InuYasha's wounds from his battle with Yura heal rapidly and completely.Sesshomaru andJaken are searching for the grave of the father of InuYasha and Sesshomaru which containsTetsusaiga . InuYasha's (dead, but resurrected) human mother appears to him and is being held hostage by Sesshomaru who demands to know where the grave site is. InuYasha does not know and they begin to fight. Kagome discovers that InuYasha's "mother" is actually an illusion created by a demon. The demon extracts a clue from InuYasha's subconscious. Kagome destroys the illusion. Sesshomaru combines the clue with one of his own and deduces that a portal to the grave is in one of InuYasha's eyes. He rips out InuYasha's eye and opens the portal. Sesshomaru, Jaken, Kagome, and InuYasha pass through the portal. They discover Tetsusaiga inside the skeleton of InuYasha's father. Sesshomaru is unable to grasp Tetsusaiga because it is spelled to repel full-demons. InuYasha can grasp it, but not withdraw it from the stone in which it is fixed. Kagome accidentally withdraws it from the stone, then gives it to InuYasha. Sesshomaru tries to kill them with violence and poison. InuYasha is only able to use Tetsusaiga's powers after he promises to save Kagome. Then he cuts Sesshomaru's arm off. Sesshomaru retreats; and they all leave the grave site. Kagome figures out that Tetsusaiga only works when it is used to protect a human.Graphic novel list

That lord's soldiers have been kidnapping all the young women in the neighborhood and taking them to his castle where they disappear. Everyone at the castle is under a sleeping spell, except the lord who is indeed possessed by a frog-demon. InuYasha wants to just kill the demon and lord together, but Tsuyu and Nobunaga insist that lord be saved. The kidnapped women are found inside giant frog's eggs where they sleep until their souls can be eaten by the frog-demon. Kagome uses an improvised flame-thrower made from a can of hair-spray to drive the demon out of the lord. InuYasha kills the demon and recovers its jewel shard. The women are liberated from the eggs. Nobunaga leaves relieved to have saved Tsuyu, but disappointed that she chose to stay with her husband instead of going with him.Kagome returns to modern times. She runs away and sends Sota to the well to summon InuYasha. InuYasha follows them and destroys the mask. They recover the jewel shard which was animating the mask.

Summary = "Peach man" eats people and peaches. He lives on the side of a mountain. He throws the remains of his victims down to a tree by the side of the river at the base of the mountain. The tree consumes the remains and produces fruits which look like human heads. Some of the fruits float down river and are discovered by InuYasha's group. InuYasha goes ahead, hoping to finish before the night of the new Moon. Peach man's magic blocks Tetsusaiga and shrinks InuYasha. Peach man swallows him. Shippo lifts the others up to peach man's home where they find a shrunken garden with little men in it. They fall into it and shrink. Peach man finds Kagome's jewel shard and puts it into hisnavel . Meanwhile, in peach man's stomach, InuYasha loses his demonic powers just as he is trying to cut through the stomach lining. InuYasha uses Tetsusaiga's scabbard to call to Tetsusaiga and it stabs peach man in his belly, but bounces off. Nonetheless, it causes peach man to vomit out InuYasha who then regains his full size. Myoga shows them the nearby cave containing the ancient mummified remains ofMidoriko and the (Naraku-like) demon with which she was fighting when they died. Sango and Naraku (actually his demon puppet) are looking for InuYasha to kill him. Sango is weak from her injuries and accepts a jewel shard in her back from Naraku. Sango attacks InuYasha. He tries to kill Naraku, but Sango insists that he fight her first. Naraku steals Kagome's jewel shard and flees. Sango has become suspicious of him because he showed his demonic nature during the fighting, so she sendsKirara after him. InuYasha saves Sango from one of her own poison dust attacks, but she still thinks it is a trick and stabs him. She faints from loss of blood and awakens while being carried on InuYasha's back as he chases after Naraku. Naraku confesses that he killed Sango's relatives to steal their jewel shards. Sango advises Miroku and InuYasha on how to destroy the demon puppet. InuYasha's group buries the villagers. Sango explains that the jewel was formed during the death-struggle of Midoriko and the demon from their souls. Sango decides to join InuYasha's group as the best way to find Naraku and get revenge.Boys are being sacrificed to a water god. The headman's son (who was supposed to be the sacrifice but was replaced) pays InuYasha's group to destroy the water god. The god's attendants are brushed aside, but the god himself is armed with the Amakoi Halberd which is stronger than Tetsusaiga. Kagome wounds the god with a sacred arrow. Some water sprites tell Miroku that the water god is an impostor; the real god is sealed up in a cave. As InuYasha continues to fight with the impostor, the real water god is freed by Miroku and Sango.Graphic novel list

The impostor takes to the air and uses the Amakoi halberd to startwaterspout s to destroy the village. As Sango (on Kirara) fights with the impostor, InuYasha climbs up his back and grabs the Amakoi, ripping off the imposter's arm. The impostor reverts to his true form — a snake. The woman turns out to be a mantis demon in disguise who plans to eat Miroku. Miroku vanquishes it with his wind tunnel, but his hand is wounded and the tunnel widened in the process. He secretly leaves the group to visit his foster father, Mushin, who can repair the wound. Naraku hears of this and plans an attack on Mushin and Miroku. Naraku sends a demon puppet to create a diversion and lead the group away from Miroku. An urn grub possesses Mushin and causes him to attack Miroku while he is anesthetized. Miroku escapes to his father's grave site and is besieged by demons. Hachi seeks out InuYasha's group and tells them what is happening. They arrive just in time to save Miroku. InuYasha fights with Mushin. Miroku is forced to use his wind tunnel to save himself and InuYasha from Naraku's demons; thus further injuring it. InuYasha used Tetsusaiga to slay a hundred of the demons. Sango kills the urn keeper. Kagome draws the urn grub out of Mushin into the urn. Mushin repairs Miroku's hand as far as he can, but the wind tunnel is permanently widened.
Naraku, concerned by InuYasha's increasing power, resurrects Kohaku with a jewel shard in his back and sends him to destroy a village. Sango follows Kohaku to a meeting with Naraku. Naraku demands that Sango get Tetsusaiga for him, or else he will destroy Kohaku. Next evening, Kohaku and Naraku's demons attack InuYasha. Summary = While partially blinded by Sesshomaru's poison, InuYasha "smells" the scar of the wind and hits Sesshomaru with a new attack, the wind-scar. There is a flash of light, and Sesshomaru disappears, apparently destroyed. Toto-sai decides that InuYasha is worthy of Tetsusaiga after all and hones the blade. Toto-sai says that Tenseiga chose to save Sesshomaru, to his surprise. Some distance away, Sesshomaru awakes paralyzed by his wounds, but alive. A little girl, Rin, finds him, dumps water on his head, and offers him food which he rejects. Rin is beaten by villagers for stealing fish. Sesshomaru asks what happened to her, but she just smiles.Rin's village is attacked by Koga's wolves. Koga arrives and kills a man for a jewel shard. Rin flees, but is run down and killed by the wolves who also eat the villagers. Sesshomaru smells blood, finds Rin's body in the forest, and uses Tenseiga to resurrect her. InuYasha's group arrives at the village and kill some of the wolves. The others escape and howl for Koga. Koga returns and fights InuYasha. Kagome tells InuYasha that Koga has jewel shards in both legs and one arm. InuYasha is about to use the wind-scar on Koga when Koga senses danger and retreats. InuYasha's group is pursuing them when they are ambushed and Koga kidnaps Kagome and Shippo. As InuYasha, Miroku, and Sango follow they are attacked by harpies (giant demons - half man, half bird). Shippo leaves a trail of magic mushrooms which show the path Koga took. Koga tells Kagome that he will prevent the wolf-demons from eating her and Shippo, if she helps him find jewel shards, especially a shard held by the King of the harpies who are mortal enemies of the wolf-demons. Then he declares her to be his mate even though she rejects him. Kagome shows Koga where the harpy King's jewel shard is — in the roof of his mouth. Then she uses a sacred arrow to save one of Koga's friends as the wolf-demons and harpies fight. InuYasha's group arrives and help to destroy the harpies, but the King escapes. Then Koga and InuYasha start to fight over Kagome. The King returns and attacks Koga ripping the shard from his arm and severely wounding him. InuYasha destroys the King with the wind-scar and takes his jewel shards. InuYasha is about to kill Koga for his two remaining shards when Kagome stops him with "sit". Koga's friends carry him away over his protestations. Kagome and InuYasha argue and she returns home to modern Tokyo.Graphic novel list

Summary = In modern Tokyo, Kagome's friends push her to date Hojo. When she resists, they accuse her of having another boyfriend and demand to know about him. When she finally talks about InuYasha, they advise her to dump this violent, selfish, two-timing chump. Kagome tries to defend him, so her friends conclude that she loves him. InuYasha enters Kagome's room through the window and Sota surprises him there. Sota says that Kagome was in a really bad mood, so InuYasha tells Sota to keep his visit secret and goes back to the past. Kagome studies for her exams, then sleeps. InuYasha comes again and watches her sleep, then runs away when her alarm clock goes off. Kagome returns to the past and is about to apologize (insincerely) to InuYasha when he apologizes to her for breaking her alarm clock.InuYasha's group searches for a bear that became a man-eater after a jewel shard became embedded in its forehead. As they are about to take it down,
Saimyosho appear, sting the bear, and take its jewel shard. InuYasha's group follow the Saimyosho. Koga's comrades have heard of a castle with a stash of jewel shards and raid it without him. Kagura is there and kills them. Koga is given a fake and poisonous jewel shard, and summoned to help his comrades. InuYasha's group arrives at the castle and Kagura has the corpses of the wolf-demons attack InuYasha so that he is covered with their blood. Koga arrives and concludes that InuYasha killed them. Koga and InuYasha fight. Miroku and Sango destroy Naraku's demon puppet. Koga seems to kill InuYasha. Then Kagura has the corpses attack Koga. Koga realizes that he was tricked, but collapses from the poison. InuYasha revives and tries to use the wind-scar against Kagura, but cannot because her control of the wind is too great. Kagome shoots an arrow that temporarily breaks Kagura's control, allowing InuYasha to use the wind-scar against her. Kagura's kimono is ripped away showing the spider on her back (like Naraku's). She escapes. Because of the spider mark and her Naraku-like odor, they conclude that she is a detachment of Naraku. Koga is dying from the poison. Kagome uses an arrow to dig the fake shard out of his arm. Koga immediately revives and flees. Kagura confronts Naraku and accuses him of endangering her by not telling her about Tetsusaiga's powers. Naraku threatens to kill her.Koharu, a 14 year-old girl who loves Miroku, is hiding from some men who had enslaved her. They mistake Sango for Koharu starting a fight which they quickly lose. Koharu is overjoyed to see Miroku after his three year absence. Kagome and Sango suspect him of having carnal knowledge of Koharu when she was 11 and are horrified. Miroku denies it. Koharu wants to join InuYasha's group to be with Miroku, but he says that it would be too dangerous for her. Sango begins to feel jealous. They take Koharu to another village where she will be well treated instead of being a slave. Before they can leave, Kanna, another detachment of Naraku, arrives and steals the souls of the villagers with her mirror. Sango throws her boomerang at Kanna, but Kanna's mirror bounces it back and it hits Sango, knocking her out. Koharu, under Kanna's control, grabs Kagome and Kanna tries to steal Kagome's soul. Meanwhile, the villagers are fighting with InuYasha, and Kagura arrives.Graphic novel list

Summary = Kanna cannot draw all of Kagome's soul into her mirror because it is too large to fit. Although weakened, Kagome is able to put an arrow into her bow to defend herself when Kanna tries to take her jewel shards. Kanna flees. Koharu attacks Miroku, but he knocks her out. Kanna appears behind Kagura who is fighting InuYasha behind a shield of villagers. Kagura sends the villagers away, and allows her control of the wind to weaken so that a scar forms in the wind. InuYasha takes this opening to launch a wind-scar attack on Kagura, but Kanna steps forward and reflects it back at InuYasha, severely wounding him. Naraku himself appears and gloats over InuYasha's failure. Miroku is about to open his wind tunnel, when Naraku points out that Kanna's mirror contains the souls of the villagers and Kagome, so Miroku should not suck it into his wind tunnel. Naraku orders the villagers to attack Miroku and Kagura to take InuYasha's head. Meanwhile, Kagome has Kirara carry her out to where InuYasha and Miroku are. Naraku admits that he got the power to create detachments from the almost complete jewel which Kikyo stole from Kagome and gave to him. Kagome shoots an arrow at Naraku's group. Kanna tries to reflect it with her mirror, but it enters the mirror. The mirror begins to crack from the strain of holding all the souls (Kagome's sacred arrow held part of her soul). So Kanna is forced to release all the souls to save her mirror. This allows Kagome to recover and stops the villagers from attacking. Kagura launches a wind attack which Miroku sucks into his wind tunnel. Naraku's group flees.InuYasha's group moves to another location to give InuYasha and Sango time to recover. While Kagome and Miroku are out looking for food and medicine, Kikyo arrives and meets with InuYasha. Kagura spies on them for Naraku. Kikyo drives her away and leaves. Kagome and Miroku return and question InuYasha about Kikyo.
Goshinki , a mind-reading ogre detachment of Naraku, is devouring the inhabitants of a village. InuYasha's group cannot fight him effectively because he anticipates all their moves and quickly gets out of the way. When InuYasha closes with him and swings Tetsusaiga, Goshinki grabs it with his teeth and breaks it. He knocks Miroku out and is about to start eating Kagome. InuYasha transforms to his "full"-demon form and kills Goshinki with his bare hands. InuYasha is overcome by blood-lust and wants to kill again. Kagome stops him and reverses his transformation with "sit". Myoga arrives on Toto-sai's bull and tells them to collect the pieces of Tetsusaiga and take it to Toto-sai to be repaired. Toto-sai takes one of InuYasha's fangs to use in repairing Tetsusaiga. While they are waiting InuYasha loses his powers due to the new Moon.Sesshomaru finds Goshinki's remains and takes his head to Kaijinbō to make a sword from Goshinki's fangs which broke Tetsusaiga. When Jaken goes to collect the resulting sword,
Tokijin , Kaijinbō kills him with it.Graphic novel list

Summary = Sesshomaru finds Jaken's remains and resurrects him with Tenseiga. Kaijinbo, controlled by Tokijin, comes after InuYasha for killing Goshinki. InuYasha's friends hold him back since he is in his human form. Sango throws her boomerang at Kaijinbo, but he cuts it in half with Tokijin. Miroku moves quickly through Kaijinbo's guard and splits his head open, but Tokijin keeps Kaijinbo moving. As InuYasha pushes forward to join the fight, Toto-sai lands in between the two sides. InuYasha grabs the re-forged Tetsusaiga from Toto-sai. Tetsusaiga is a little stronger, but its demonic powers are not available as long as InuYasha is in his human form. Dawn breaks and InuYasha regains his powers. Tetsusaiga transforms, but now it is too heavy for InuYasha to lift without great difficulty. Tetsusaiga and Tokijin clash again, and Kaijinbo's body disintegrates unable to stand the strain. Toto-sai says the extra weight is due to InuYasha's fang and he must build up his strength to lift it. Sesshomaru arrives and claims Tokijin, overcoming its evil aura with his own. Sesshomaru, curious about InuYasha's demonic transformation, starts a fight with him. He knocks Tetsusaiga out of InuYasha hands and sees him transform to his demonic form. Toto-sai breaths fire and, under its cover, InuYasha's group flees.Toto-sai repairs Sango's boomerang and he, with InuYasha's friends, persuade InuYasha never to part with Tetsusaiga again. They know that Tetsusaiga suppresses InuYasha's demonic transformation, but they avoid mentioning that to InuYasha.
Wanting to be free, Kagura asks Sesshomaru to kill Naraku. Naraku creates Juromaru and Kageromaru. Koga asks InuYasha where Naraku's castle is, but InuYasha does not know. Koga leaves, then smells Naraku. He finds Naraku (actually a demon puppet) with Juromaru in a cage. Naraku lets Juromaru out and after a brief fight, Koga flees, passing InuYasha's group. As InuYasha arrives, Naraku releases Juromaru from his mussel and chains. Juromaru destroys the demon puppet. InuYasha and Juromaru fight. Kageromaru emerges from Juromaru's gut and joins the fight, but he is so fast that he cannot be seen at first. Kageromaru eats some of InuYasha's innards. Koga's companions point out that Kagome is in danger, so he rejoins the fight. InuYasha focuses on Juromaru while Koga fights Kageromaru. Kageromaru starts going underground to hide his location between attacks. InuYasha is injured and loses consciousness. Kageromaru threatens to eat Kagome causing InuYasha to awake.Graphic novel list

Summary = Koga tries to stop Kageromaru before he can reach Kagome, but Juromaru blocks Koga. InuYasha stops Kageromaru by cutting off one of his scythe-like arms. Koga kicks Jeuomaru, but it does not affect him. Sango puts poison into the soil to drive Kageromaru out and slow him down. When Kageromaru emerges, InuYasha swings Tetsusaiga at him, but Jeromaru hits him during the swing, stopping him. Kageromaru disappears and Koga is about to clash with Juromaru, when InuYasha realizes that Kageromaru has returned to Juromaru's stomach. He tries to warn Koga. InuYasha unleashes the wind-scar at Jeromaru just as Kageromaru exits Juromaru's mouth, killing both of them. Koga just manages to step out of the way in time. Koga and InuYasha argue. Kagome has to say "sit" to allow Koga to escape. Kagome and InuYasha argue with InuYasha displaying his jealousy.Kikyo and Naraku meet again as they often do. Kikyo tells Naraku that he cannot kill her because Onigumo's lust for her is still in him. Kagome returns home. Naraku tries to eliminate Kikyo by sending a giant soul-collector demon to deprive her of her source of motive power — the souls of dead women. Kikyo tries to destroy it with a sacred arrow, but misses. Even the souls in her body are being sucked out by the demon. She flees blindly. InuYasha sulks and then goes out to the bone-eater's well and wonders when Kagome will return. He sees Kikyo and the pursuing the giant soul-collector. InuYasha destroys the demon, releasing the souls which are returned to Kikyo by her own soul-collectors. Kikyo has InuYasha carry her to the tree of ages. Kikyo explains that Naraku tricked her into sealing InuYasha to the tree — not to taint the sacred jewel, but because he was jealous, wanting Kikyo to himself. As Kikyo and InuYasha are embracing, Kagome returns and sees them. Naraku watches this in Kanna's mirror. After Kikyo leaves, InuYasha notices Kagome and realizes that she saw them. Kikyo incorporates soil from Onigumo's cave into herself to protect her from Naraku. Then she visits him. She shoots Naraku's right arm off. When one of his demons touches her, it dissolves. She warns him to leave her alone or suffer the same fate. Kagome gives the supplies she brought to Miroku and Sango, then returns home again. When her friends again tell her to dump InuYasha, she says that he dumped her. She says she is OK, but she does not want to talk about it. Her friends realize that she is great pain. Miroku tells InuYasha to go to Kagome to retrieve her jewel shard and then leave her alone. Meanwhile, Kagome is thinking about returning the shard, but cannot bring herself to do it because she might never see InuYasha again. This makes it clear to her how deeply she loves him. Naraku's castle disintegrates and the barrier hiding its location dissipates. InuYasha is thinking about going to see Kagome, when he sees her sitting on the well. Kagome confesses that she needs to be with InuYasha, even if he is not faithful to her.
InuYasha's group goes to investigate the ruins of Naraku's castle. Finding the remains of Sango's family, they decide that it is the real thing and move the remains to sacred ground. Meanwhile, Kohaku, having lost his memory even of Naraku, is taken in by an old couple and helps them with their chores. When he sees saimyosho approaching, he remembers about Naraku, warns the old couple, and flees. Naraku's demons have come to take Kohaku's jewel shard without which he will die. InuYasha's group arrive and help him. Sango tells Kohaku that he is her brother as she treats his wounds. More demons come with Kagura and she demands Kohaku's shard. But Kagura is thinking that this is all a trick by Naraku.Graphic novel list

Summary = Kagura leads a horde of Naraku's demons against InuYasha's group, supposedly to try to recover Kohaku's jewel shard. Sango goes out to help InuYasha and Miroku fight them. InuYasha leaves Kagome in Kohaku's care within the shelter. The demons break into the shelter and Kohaku fights them off, then he and Kagome run into the forest and hide. Miroku notices that the demons are not pursuing Kohaku, rather they are tying down InuYasha, Sango, and Miroku. They conclude that Kohaku is still working for Naraku and is after Kagome. Miroku opens his wind tunnel to finish the fighting, in spite of being stung by saimyosho. Kagura flees. Naraku's demon puppet appears to InuYasha and confirms his suspicions by ordering Kagome's death at Kohaku's hand. InuYasha's group follows Kohaku and Kagome. Meanwhile, Kohaku cuts Kagome with his scythe, but does not kill her. Seeing Sango approaching, he grabs the jewel shards and runs. Sango goes after Kohaku alone, planning to kill him (to free him from Naraku) and then commit suicide. InuYasha follows and stops her. He recovers the jewel shards, but Kohaku escapes with Kagura's help. Naraku is angry at Kohaku for failing to kill Kagome, so he punishes him by briefly restoring his unbearable memories. InuYasha and Kagome talk it over and he embraces her.Sesshomaru visits a 2000 year-old Magnolia tree-demon, Bokusen'on. The scabbards of Tetsusaiga and Tenseiga were made from his branches. Bokuseno explains about InuYasha's demonic transformation.
A village is attacked by bandits headed by Gatenmaru, a moth-demon. InuYasha and Miroku oppose them. InuYasha cuts Gatenmaru's war-ax with Tetsusaiga. Gatenmaru demands that Tetsusaiga be given to him. He envelopes InuYasha and Miroku in a poisonous cocoon. Miroku is trying to hold off the poison, but InuYasha is already affected and has been separated from Tetsusaiga. Gatenmaru tries to hold Tetsusaiga, but it burns him as it burned Sesshomaru. Gatenmaru eats a woman. Sango and Kagome arrive and Gatenmaru decides to eat them. InuYasha undergoes his demonic transformation and rips through the cocoon. InuYasha kills some of the bandits. Gatenmaru changes to his true form. InuYasha kills him and the remaining bandits, even though some of them were pleading for their lives. Sesshomaru arrives and tests the information which Bokuseno gave him, knocking out InuYasha and then leaving. Tetsusaiga is given to InuYasha and he changes back to his normal form. He is appalled at what he has done. Kagome comforts him.
InuYasha goes to Toto-sai to find out how to handle Tetsusaiga so that he can avoid his demonic transformation (fearing that he might kill Kagome while transformed). Toto-sai suggests that killing InuYasha's father's killer, Ryukotsusei, would give him the power to wield Tetsusaiga freely. InuYasha goes to where Ryukotsusei is sealed. As he arrives, he sees Naraku release Ryukotsusei from the seal. Naraku tells Ryukotsusei that InuYasha is the son of his old enemy.Graphic novel list

Summary = When InuYasha is unable to injure Ryukotsusei, Ryukotsusei gloats that his body is harder than steel and thus invulnerable. Toto-sai arrives with InuYasha's group. Toto-sai says that, now that he is unsealed, Ryukotsusei can only be destroyed with the Bakuryu-ha ("crushing stream", or "backlash wave" in the anime). As the fight continues, Tetsusaiga is knocked out of InuYasha's hands and he transforms to his demonic form. He begins to drive Ryukotsusei back. But Toto-sai says that defeating him in this form would not make Tetsusaiga lighter. Toto-sai wants to flee, but Kagome insists that they stay to support InuYasha. InuYasha grabs hold of Tetsusaiga and returns to his normal form. Tetsusaiga begins to be less heavy. InuYasha pierces Ryukotsusei's heart, but he merely bleeds a little and keeps fighting. InuYasha finds that he can create the wind-scar at will now. However, even the wind-scar does not hurt Ryukotsusei. Toto-sai says that InuYasha has achieved his objective of making Tetsusaiga lighter and should run away. InuYasha refuses and says that he will out-do his father by killing Ryukotsusei. Becoming very angry, Ryukotsusei summons all his aura and unleashes an enormous blast of energy. InuYasha cannot dodge it, so he cuts through it with the wind-scar. Toto-sai is amazed — this is the Bakuryu-ha. It reverses Ryukotsusei's blast and cuts him into small pieces with whirl-winds. Toto-sai explains to InuYasha that he just discovered Tetsusaiga's ultimate move. InuYasha demonstrates that he can now produce the wind-scar at will, but is chastised for showing off.Kagura brings a very old dark priestess, Tsubaki, to Naraku. Naraku offers his almost complete jewel to Tsubaki for her services. She changes to her true form, a youthful beautiful woman (although she is the same chronological age as Kikyo) due to a deal with demons. In modern Tokyo, Kagome is depressed that she is forgetting what she knew about mathematics. She tells her friends that she made up with InuYasha. She returns to the past and is bitten by Tsubaki's shikigami as she emerges from the bone-eater's well. Tsubaki uses Kagome's blood and the jewel to curse Kagome — Kagome's shards turn black and enter her body, allowing Tsubaki to control her. Miroku and Sango look for Tsubaki. If they kill her, then Kagome will be freed. At Naraku's request, Tsubaki has Kagome try to kill InuYasha with her arrows. Kagome resists surprising Tsubaki. Naraku explains that Kagome is Kikyo's reincarnation and should not be underestimated. Tsubaki is not impressed. Kagome tells InuYasha to run away so that she will not be able to kill him. InuYasha stays. Miroku and Sango cannot pass through Tsubaki's shield, but Kikyo arrives and walks right through it. Kikyo destroy's Naraku's demon puppet and confronts Tsubaki. With Tsubaki distracted, Kagome partially recovers and has InuYasha take her to where the jewel is, i.e with Tsubaki. Tsubaki realizes that Kikyo is undead. Kikyo tells her that she will lose to Kagome. Kagome's arrow breaks Tsubaki's shield. Kikyo threatens to kill Tsubaki, if she harms InuYasha. Kikyo leaves. Tsubaki threatens to kill Kagome, if InuYasha uses Tetsusaiga. Tsubaki reinforces the curse on Kagome. Tsubaki sets her main demon on InuYasha. Miroku tries to exorcise Tsubaki's shikigami to break the curse, but Tsubaki blocks it. Kagome is able to shoot an arrow at Tsubaki while she is distracted, but it misses. Tsubaki again strengthens her curse. InuYasha kills Tsubaki's main demon with his claws of steel. It seems that InuYasha and Miroku have killed Tsubaki's shikigami, but Kagome does not recover. While the remainder of Tsubaki's demons attack InuYasha's group, the shikigami (actually still alive) attacks Kagome. Kagome throws it and the curse back at Tsubaki just as Kikyo did fifty years earlier. Also the jewel is purified and the shards in Kagome emerge. The remains of Tsubaki's demons carry her away, then die. Tsubaki is thinking that at least she still has most of the jewel, but a saimyosho takes it from her. Kikyo sees that Tsubaki is defeated.Graphic novel list

Summary = Shippo rescues a girl, Satsuki, being beaten by boys for stealing food from them. Her whole family is dead, but she believes that her older brother will return from the wars and protect her. She shows Shippo her "Shikon shard" which she expects to grant her wish. Miroku exorcises a lizard demon from the headman's house. Shippo brings Satsuki to the headman's house where the group are guests. InuYasha threatens to take the shard, if it is real. Kagome and Sango look at it, and let Satsuki go. They tell Shippo that it is just a stone flower, quartz. The headman explains that he has offered to adopt Satsuki, but she will not leave her family's shack believing that her brother will return. Shippo tries to steal a real jewel shard while Kagome is sleeping because he has fallen for Satsuki, but InuYasha stops him. Satsuki tells Shippo that her brother has returned, but he sees that it is the lizard demon disguised by a spell. The demon takes Satsuki hostage, but Shippo helps her escape. InuYasha and Miroku kill the demon and give Shippo credit for it. Satsuki agrees to move in with the headman.Koga's group and InuYasha's group have both caught the scent of Naraku and Koga runs ahead of InuYasha. Naraku's castle has been relocated from where the ruins were. All the human retainers have died from the poisonous aura. Kanna's mirror shows Kagura that Koga is approaching, and Kanna says that Naraku is absent (actually he is re-assembling himself in the subbasement). Kagura decides to attack Koga on her own initiative. She takes the castle guard, a hundred skeletons in armor with swords, with her. As Koga charges at her, she creates a vortex around him consisting of the castle guard. Koga is being gradually cut to death by the swirling bones and swords. Meanwhile, InuYasha has changed to his human form due to the new Moon. Koga jumps up through the eye of the vortex and out of its top, landing outside. Kagura cuts the jewel shards out of his legs with her dance of blades. She takes the shards and is about to kill Koga when InuYasha's group arrives. Kagura flees with the shards. Together, InuYasha's group and Koga's group pursue her. Kagura goes to Sesshomaru and offers him the shards, if he kills Naraku. Sesshomaru declines. Kagura calls him a coward. Kagura meets her pursuers and, foolishly, decides to fight them. Distracted by the unexpected arrival of Naraku's demons, Kagura is hit by Koga and drops the shards. Kagura wounds Koga. InuYasha steps forward to fight her just as he is transforming from human to half-demon. She notices that his period of vulnerability is the night of the new Moon. She attacks him with the dance of the dragon. He responds with the wind-scar which would not have worked against her before he killed Ryukotsusei. Naraku's demons sacrifice themselves to save Kagura who escapes. Koga puts the shards back in his legs and flees before InuYasha can take them. When Kagura returns to Naraku's castle, he threatens to re-absorb her into his body, if she acts on her own again.
The men of a village have disappeared into the mountain, bewitched by a beautiful princess. Miroku goes to save them. Sango follows to protect him. A spiritual barrier separates them. Sango finds the men who have lost their youth to the "princess", actually a dog-demon. Miroku is being seduced by the princess. Sango arrives disturbing the demon which assumes its natural form. Miroku separates the demon from the princess whom it had possessed. Sango kills the demon. Miroku comforts the princess who, being merely a spirit long dead, ascends to heaven. The men regain their youth and return to the village. Miroku holds Sango's hand and indicates that he thinks she is special. She blushes and feels confused. He pats her rump. She slaps him.
Bandits find a large lump of flesh and stab it. A new detachment of Naraku emerges from it in the form of a naked man without a face. The demon kills the male bandits and rips their faces off. InuYasha's group arrive and a woman tells them what happened. The demon tries on all the faces, looking at himself in a river, and rejects them all. He is interrupted by a monk named Muso. Muso tries to exorcise the demon, but the demon kills him. The demon chooses to use Muso's face and name. InuYasha's group finds a burning village full of dead bodies. Muso (the demon) says that he killed them and he enjoyed it. InuYasha is surprised that Muso knows nothing of Naraku or InuYasha. Naraku watches this in Kanna's mirror.Graphic novel list

Summary = When InuYasha cuts off Muso's arm, saimyosho cling to the stub and fuse into a new arm. Muso calls Kagome "Kikyo" and grabs her. InuYasha seems to destroy him with the wind-scar, saving her. The group think that Muso is really Onigumo, Naraku's heart. Naraku releases Kagura from her chains and gives her a mission regarding Muso. The saimyosho show Muso to Onigumo's cave where he regains his memories of Onigumo's life. Kagura tells InuYasha's group that Muso is at Onigumo's cave. Muso is about to kill Kaede when InuYasha arrives and breaks his sword. Muso confirms that Naraku killed Kikyo against Onigumo's will. After some failed attempts to destroy Muso, InuYasha aims at his spider mark, but Kagura pulls Muso out of the path of the wind-scar and takes him away. Muso tries to kill Naraku, but Naraku re-absorbs him. InuYasha sees this. Naraku admits that he needs Onigumo to allow him to re-assemble himself during his periods of vulnerability as a half-demon. InuYasha uses the wind-scar against Naraku and Kagura, but Naraku blocks it with a spiritual barrier and escapes.InuYasha asks Toto-sai for a way to break any barrier with Tetsusaiga. Myoga answers that he must kill an ogre bat who creates a powerful barrier and let Tetsusaiga drink its blood. Meanwhile, Shiori (daughter of said ogre bat and a human mother) is turned over to her paternal grandfather (a giant ogre bat). He needs her to replace his son (her father, who has died) as generator of the barrier. The ogre bats raid the village of Shiori's mother in violation of the agreement by which she was turned over. InuYasha's group arrive and save Shiori's mother from vengeful villagers. She explains the situation. They go to the cave of the ogre bats, and Shiori speaks with her mother. Her grandfather refuses to honor the agreement to leave the village alone and also refuses to return Shiori. InuYasha tries to cut him down with the wind-scar, but the barrier protects him. The grandfather retaliates with an energy beam and threatens to kill Shiori's mother, if he is opposed. The ogre bats raid the village again. Miroku sucks some of them into his wind tunnel, but the rest hide behind the barrier around Sinori who is being carried by her grandfather. As fighting continues, Shiori's mother pleads with her grandfather to honor his late son's wishes and spare the village. The grandfather admits that he killed his son himself for consorting with humans. InuYasha uses the backlash wave on the grandfather, but the barrier stops it. To avenge her father, Shiori expels all the ogre bats from the barrier's protection. InuYasha uses the backlash wave again and destroys them. Shiori asks InuYasha to break the orb which she used to raise the barrier. The orb raises a barrier spontaneously to protect itself. Her grandfather's ghost emerges from the orb and attacks her. Her father's ghost protects her. InuYasha destroys the grandfather's ghost, and the orb breaks. The blood from the orb is absorbed by Tetsusaiga, making it stronger.Graphic novel list

Summary = Kagura kidnaps Rin. Naraku demands that Sesshomaru kill InuYasha. Sesshomaru goes after Naraku. InuYasha catches Naraku's scent and closes in on him. Rin is being guarded by Kohaku. Kagome detects Kohaku's shard, so InuYasha's group splits. Naraku tells Sesshomaru that it was a trick to lure him in so that Naraku can devour him, and they begin to fight. InuYasha reaches the spiritual barrier around Naraku's new castle and Tetsusaiga cuts through it. Surprised, Naraku sends Kagura to stop InuYasha. With saimyosho and Naraku's demons watching her, Kagura makes a pretense of fighting InuYasha. InuYasha destroys Naraku's demons. Kagura flees. Just as Sesshomaru is being enveloped by the pieces of Naraku's flesh which he hacked off, InuYasha arrives and hits Naraku with the wind-scar. It breaks through Naraku's shield disintegrating most of his body. InuYasha and Sesshomaru both try to strike Naraku, but he tells them that Kohaku will kill Rin and dissolves into smoke. As InuYasha's group approaches, Kohaku carries Rin away. On a signal from Naraku, Kohaku knocks Rin unconscious and is about to kill her when Sesshomaru arrives. Kohaku turns to fight Sesshomaru. InuYasha arrives and knocks Kohaku down before he can strike a blow, not to save Sesshomaru, but to keep him from killing Kohaku. Kohaku escapes with Kagura.Kikyo can find no trace of Naraku's aura, even with the help of her soul collectors. Kagome returns home. Miroku gives words of comfort about Kohaku to Sango without touching her. Sango expresses surprise that he did not touch her. Miroku pats her breasts. She slaps him. InuYasha visits Kagome in modern Tokyo, but she is trying to study for an exam. Sota showers with InuYasha. InuYasha cannot stand the hot water and runs out of the shower naked, upsetting Kagome. InuYasha's tongue is burned by curry rice. After InuYasha hogs the bed all night, they go back to the feudal era.
Naraku left little fragments of himself behind in the sub-basement of his castle. They come together and form a new demon in the form of a giant hair-ball with a mouth. As Koga and InuYasha are arguing, the hair-ball comes after their jewel shards. As InuYasha tangles with the hair-ball, Koga grabs Kagome and "carries her to safety". The hair-ball breaks away, and goes after Koga and Kagome. InuYasha pursues it. Koga interrogates the hair-ball about Naraku. It says that all it knows is that he is going to a place where no one can touch him. Koga rips the hair-ball apart and leaves.
A dying elderly bandit asks Kikyo to take his top-knot to Mount Hakurei so that he can be saved by its spiritual purification; it can wipe away any sins.
InuYasha's group meets an old incompetent exorcist. She leads them to a castle which is being haunted by an ogre's head. The lord of the castle seems possessed and kills any servants who approach his quarters. At night, the ogre's head appears in the sky, but their attacks go right through it without effect.Graphic novel list

Summary = Miroku realizes that the ogre's head in the sky is an illusion intended to distract them from the real ogre. The princess takes Miroku to an underground chamber where the ogre's head was buried. Since the ogre escaped, the burial mound has become a pit which is now full of the remains of those who tried to exorcise the ogre, but were devoured by it instead. The lord of the castle assumes the form of the ogre and begins fighting with InuYasha. The princess explains to Miroku that she is actually the ogre in disguise and that she will devour him. He will be her 100th victim (since she escaped the burial mound) and will provide her with enough spiritual power to restore her entire body. Sango and the old exorcist go to look for Miroku. Kagome finds the dead body of the real princess who was replaced by the ogre. Although Miroku and Sango are paralyzed by the ogre's aura, the old exorcist is not affected. Miroku tells her to throw all her purification salt on the ogre, and he uses a spell to give it the power to release Sango and himself. The ogre goes upstairs to where Kagome is with the dead princess. InuYasha realizes that he has been tricked — the lord is not the real threat. He goes inside the castle. The ogre eats the souls of monks and priestesses which she had been storing in the princess's body. Then she goes after Kagome's jewel shards. InuYasha wounds the ogre. Miroku asks why the ogre did not escape earlier. The ogre was hiding to avoid being absorbed into Naraku, but now he is gone. InuYasha uses the wind-scar against the ogre as she tries to escape, but she survives. Miroku sucks her into his wind tunnel. Some men approach InuYasha, calling him "venerable dog god", and beg him to save their village from rampaging monkeys. InuYasha and Kagome search for the monkeys. The three monkey sprites, who hate dogs, attack InuYasha. When he beats them, they give him what they call a peace offering. But the stone attaches itself to InuYasha's hand and grows into a huge boulder. InuYasha picks up the boulder with difficulty, and threatens to crush them with it, unless he is released. The monkeys explain to Kagome that their rampage is a search for the missing stone which houses the monkey god, and that only he can release InuYasha. They all return to the village and instigate a general search for the stone. Kagome sees a spiritual glow coming from a bowl of pickled vegetables. She realizes that the pickled vegetables were in contact with the stone. The stone was being used by the villagers as a pickling stone. The monkey god is saved and releases InuYasha. The villagers agree to build a new shrine for the monkey god in exchange for his protection. The monkey god explains that he sensed Naraku's aura pass by, heading northeast, and that it just disappeared rather than fading into the distance. InuYasha's group head northeast.
A dying wolf tells Koga about a terrible ghost which is devouring demons in the north. Koga goes to investigate. The ghost is
Kyokotsu a giant human who was resurrected with a shard. He is a member of the band of seven. Kohaku warns Kyokotsu of Koga's approach and that he has jewel shards. Kyokotsu tries to take Kohaku's shard, but Kohaku cuts his hand off. Kyokotsu replaces his hand. Kohaku leaves. Koga fights with Kyokotsu. Kyokotsu becomes bones again when Koga removes the shard in his forehead. Saimyosho steal the shard from Koga.Kohaku warns Jakotsu, another of the band of seven, of InuYasha's approach. Jakotsu kills a platoon of soldiers sent to kill him using his "snake bone" sword which has many sections hinged to each other. Jakotsu, a homosexual sadist, and InuYasha fight. Jakotsu is offended that Sango, a woman, dares to interfere. Both sides have to break off fighting and flee when poison smoke released by Mukotsu of the band of seven approaches. Jakotsu is pleased when Mukotsu tells him that he can fight InuYasha alone, and Mukotsu will deal with the other members of InuYasha's group. Mukotsu attacks with poison again, paralyzing Kagome.Graphic novel list

Summary = Shippo flies after InuYasha to tell him that the group is under attack. Mukotsu is planning to use Kagome for his pleasure before killing her. She tries to dig out his jewel shard, infuriating him. Mukotsu incapacitates Miroku and Sango with poison as they try to rescue Kagome. As Mukotsu is strangling Kagome, Sesshomaru cuts off his arm. Mukotsu attacks Sesshomaru with poison, but it does not affect him. Sesshomaru kills Mukotsu with one blow from Tokijin. InuYasha arrives and suspects Sesshomaru. Kagome tells him that Sesshomaru saved them. Sesshomaru just wants information on Naraku's whereabouts, then leaves. Jakotsu observes all this from a distance, then leaves. A saimyosho takes Mukotsu's shard, but InuYasha chooses to stay with his friends rather than try to follow it to Naraku. Jakotsu reports to Renkotsu. InuYasha's group is looking for a shelter where Kagome, Sango, and Miroku can recover, but Ginkotsu approaches them. InuYasha blocks Ginkotsu and sends Shippo ahead with the others. Ginkotsu attacks Kirara as she tries to carry them away. Ginkotsu and InuYasha fight. Shippo and Kirara take the others to a temple. Renkotsu has killed and buried the priests and assumed the identity of the chief priest. InuYasha breaks the ground open with his wind-scar. Ginkotsu falls in and is buried. InuYasha arrives at the temple. Renkotsu questions him about Naraku. Ginkotsu arrives before Renkotsu can get all the information he wants. As InuYasha fights Ginkotsu, Renkotsu takes Kagome's shards, sets the temple on fire, and resumes his own identity. InuYasha smells the smoke and sees Renkotsu, but Ginkotsu will not let him go to his friends. Myoga arrives and awakes Shippo and Kirara who are not poisoned (being demons), but they cannot get the others out of the fire. Renkotsu joins the fight, using fire to help Ginkotsu against InuYasha. Jakotsu attacks Koga, and tells him that Kagome is already dead. Koga breaks away and goes looking for her. InuYasha cuts Ginkotsu in half and brushes past Renkotsu, running to the temple. Saimyosho collect the remains of Ginkotsu, and Renkotsu flees. InuYasha carries his friends out of the temple to clear ground, but they have stopped breathing. Myoga sucks the poison out of them along with a lot of blood. They revive enough to speak. InuYasha sheds tears because he thought they were dead, but denies it. Koga arrives and accuses InuYasha of leading Kagome to the "brink of death".Kikyo finds Doctor Suikotsu healing people in a village near Mount Hakurei. She is surprised that a member of the band of seven is, apparently, a good man with a pure jewel shard. Kikyo helps him cure people at his clinic. InuYasha's group recovers and comes looking for members of the band of seven. InuYasha starts to attack the seemingly innocent Doctor Suikotsu, but he is interrupted by the arrival of Ginkotsu, Renkotsu, and Jakotsu who attack the villagers. They have come for Suikotsu. Doctor Suikotsu protests against their attack. Jakotsu goes after Suikotsu while Ginkotsu and Renkotsu attack InuYasha's group and Kikyo. After being injured and seeing a lot of blood, Doctor Suikotsu transforms into Suikotsu of the band of seven and his jewel shard turns from pure to tainted. As Suikotsu fights InuYasha, Miroku saves Kikyo from being killed by Ginkotsu. The children plead with Suikotsu and he shows signs of wavering. The band of seven retreat to keep Suikotsu from transforming back into Doctor Suikotsu. At Kagome's suggestion, InuYasha carries Kikyo away from Mount Hakurei so that her soul collectors can reach her and revive her.Graphic novel list

Summary = InuYasha's group decide to investigate Mount Hakurei, but Kikyo must stay away from it because her soul collectors cannot approach it. InuYasha and Kagome argue about Kikyo. As they get closer to the Mountain, Kirara and Shippo are incapacitated by the purifying barrier. InuYasha (being a half-demon) and Miroku (being a crook and a lecher) are affected to a lesser degree. They decide that Naraku could not exist within the barrier and leave. The band of seven meet up with their leader, Bankotsu. They attack the castle of the lord who had them executed. Bankotsu recovers his halberd, Banryu, and kills the occupants of the castle. They wait for InuYasha to show up, knowing he will smell the blood and smoke. Koga gets there first and begins to fight with them. InuYasha arrives and joins the fight. Bankotsu has three shards in his neck: his own, Kyokotsu's, and Mukotsu's. Renkotsu has the shards he stole from Kagome, and he targets her to keep her from revealing that fact to Bankotsu. Suikotsu fights with Miroku, Jyakotsu (who would rather fight InuYasha) with Sango, Renkotsu with Koga, and Bankotsu with InuYasha. Meanwhile, Rin sees Kohaku and follows him inside the purifying barrier (where Jaken cannot follow) to a cave full of Naraku's demons. Kohaku tells Rin to leave before the demons tear her apart. InuYasha hits Bankotsu with the wind-scar, but Ginkotsu partially deflects it, so Bankotsu escapes with just a scratch on Banryu. The band of seven receive orders from Naraku to retreat. Renkotsu makes a last failed attempt to kill Kagome. Rin tells Sesshomaru about Naraku's demons and that Kohaku saved her. Naraku's demon puppet blocks InuYasha's group before they can pursue the band of seven. InuYasha destroys the demon puppet. They notice that it is pure like Mount Hakurei (which is definitely unlike Naraku). Koga tries to follow the band, but they have gone inside the purifying barrier. The band of seven meet Kohaku and Kanna who give them new orders. Kanna suggests putting Renkotsu's stolen shards into Banryu to strengthen it. Distrust and rivalry are growing between Bankotsu and Renkotsu. InuYasha's group find an island that smells like Naraku's demon puppet did, Hijiri island where saint Hakushin was entombed. Hakushin's temple has been violated and its caretaker killed. Bankotsu is waiting for them. The wind-scar does not work because Tetsusaiga has been partially purified. Hakushin's body is missing. Miroku finds that the purification is coming from Hakushin's dokko (a magic tool used by the saint during his life), and neutralizes it. InuYasha uses the wind-scar, but Banryu blocks it. The dokko becomes re-energized and strikes Tetsusaiga, exorcising it back to a normal sword. Kagome shoots Bankotsu with a sacred arrow disabling him. The dokko teleports itself and Bankotsu away to another temple where the saint waits with Kohaku and Kanna. InuYasha's group decide that the saint is helping Naraku and go to investigate the mountain again — Miroku and Sango go inside the barrier while the others wait outside. Kikyo notices that the barrier is getting stronger and thicker. Renkotsu and Ginkotsu surprise attack Koga wounding him.Graphic novel list

Summary = Koga wounds Renkotsu while try to find his jewel shard and remove it. Simultaneously, he takes some of Renkotsu's armor and stuffs it into the barrels of Ginkotsu's artillery. When Ginkotsu fires again, he explodes, killing him. Koga, slowed by his wound, is wounded again, severely, by the explosion. Renkotsu, wounded again by the explosion, leaves and takes Ginkotsu's shard and puts it in his wounds, then heals quickly. Jyakotsu attacks Sesshomaru. Jaken and Rin flee over a bridge, but are blocked by Suikotsu. Sesshomaru breaks away from Jyakotsu who attacks him from behind. Jaken uses the staff of two heads to try to burn Suikotsu, but merely damages the bridge. The bridge collapses plunging them all into the river. Sesshomaru finds Jaken, but Rin was swept away. Suikotsu finds Rin and (pretending to be Doctor Suikotsu) leads her to the village where he was a doctor. Jyakotsu arrives and worries that Suikotsu has reverted, but Suikotsu kills some villagers and they take Rin hostage. They move towards the purifying barrier, hoping to lure Sesshomaru to his death. Sesshomaru circles around and blocks them, and they fight. Sesshomaru is fighting Jyakotsu while Suikotsu holds Rin. Kikyo finds the slain villagers and goes looking for Suikotsu. Sesshomaru throws his sword through Suikotsu, hoping to kill him and save Rin. Sesshomaru punches through Jyakotsu's chest, but Jyakotsu gloats that they are not so easily killed now. Suikotsu is about to kill Rin when he is struck by Kikyo's sacred arrow. It knocks him down, purifies his jewel shard, and changes him back to Doctor Suikotsu. Doctor Suikotsu pleads for death to stop his killing spree. Kikyo is about to remove his shard when Jyakotsu's sword cuts it out. Jyakotsu flees into the barrier with the shard. Suikotsu disintegrates.InuYasha has carried Koga to a cave where he is recovering. Renkotsu finds them, blocks the river, pours oil on the river, and sets it on fire to drive them from the cave. InuYasha gives his cloak to Kagome and leaps over the river, but Renkotsu hits him with a cannon blast and InuYasha falls towards the fire. Kirara saves InuYasha and they come at Renkotsu, but he blows them back with another cannon blast. He fires a third blast into the cave, then enters it. He finds Kagome, Shippo, and Koga's group, all apparently dead. As he reaches for Koga's shards, Koga kicks him, they were saved by the cloak. Renkotsu has lost his cannon, but he pulls out fire sticks (dynamite). InuYasha enters the cave and Renkotsu lights the fuses of the fire sticks. Koga kicks Rekotsu and InuYasha pushes him out of the cave. Renkotsu and InuYasha fall towards the river with the burning fire sticks. There is a large explosion. Kagome thinks that InuYasha is dead and starts crying. Koga tells her that it is not her fault, it is InuYasha's own fault. InuYasha appears and hits Koga. Kagome embraces InuYasha and keeps crying. Koga and InuYasha argue about who Kagome loves while ignoring the effect on her. She pulls herself together. Renkotsu, who threw away the fire sticks at the last moment, is washed down-river, emerges and encounters Bankotsu.
Meanwhile, Miroku and Sango have been climbing Mount Hakurei and enter a cave. They notice that the purification does not extend inside the mountain, and they sense Naraku's aura. They find a central chamber where Kagura, Kanna, and Naraku's demons are located. Naraku's demons attack. Miroku cannot use his wind tunnel because some saimyosho are mixed in. Sango uses her boomerang. Miroku uses sacred sutras. Kagura cuts the staircase separating Sango from Miroku. Miroku refuses to go on without Sango. Sango throws her boomerang at Kagura who uses wind to make it hit Sango and knock her out. Miroku leaps over the hole in the staircase to get to Sango. Naraku's demons attack again. Miroku opens his wind tunnel in spite of the saimyosho, saying that he would rather die than leave Sango to be killed by them. Outside the mountain, InuYasha decides to enter the mountain alone to try to find Sango and Miroku who have been gone for too long. He leaves Kagome in Koga's care with reservations. Miroku is carrying Sango, but collapses from the venom of the saimyosho. Jyakotsu gives Suikotsu's shard to Bankotsu who says that he is the only one who he trusts. InuYasha reaches the point where he cannot go further into the barrier. Renkotsu appears behind him and attacks him with his cannon, blasting him further into the barrier. Renkotsu hoped that this would kill InuYasha, but instead he transforms into his human form (even without a new Moon). InuYasha runs up the mountain and enters a cave. Renkotsu sends Jyakotsu in after him. Sango and Miroku awaken. Miroku tells her to go on without him. Sango cries and says that she would rather stay and die with Miroku. They realize that they inadvertently crossed into the purifying barrier which is why Naraku's demons have not finished them off. Miroku recovers from the venom which he attributes to the purification. They proceed further and find the temple containing the mummy, the living Buddha, saint Hakushin. They are surprised that he is alive.Graphic novel list

Summary = Miroku questions Saint Hakushin about why he is helping Naraku. Hakushin admits that he knows that Naraku is the most vile of demons, but he does not care. He explains that his soul was in darkness for a very long time before Naraku rescued him. Jyakotsu fights with InuYasha who is losing because he is in his human form. Jyakotsu intends to kill InuYasha slowly because he wants to see InuYasha pleading for mercy and screaming in pain. Miroku cannot touch Hakushin with ordinary force, so he resorts to his wind tunnel. At first even that seems to have little effect, but then the temple begins to disintegrate and flow into the wind tunnel. However, before Hakushin himself can be sucked in, the saimyosho appear and Miroku has to close his wind tunnel. Hakushin escapes from the mountain with just a small spiritual shield around his person. Kikyo sees his escape and goes to investigate. Meanwhile, the purifying barrier has become much weaker, so InuYasha, who was bleeding to death, transforms back to a half-demon and resumes fighting. He incapacitates Jyakotsu, then leaves him alive and goes looking for Naraku whose aura is now very strong. Renkotsu takes Jyakotsu's shard, killing him. The saimyosho tell Bankotsu what Renkotsu did. Renkotsu finds Bankotsu and is planning to kill him. But Bankotsu acts first and kills Renkotsu. Kikyo finds Hakushin. She persuades him to lower his personal shield and embraces him. She shows him how he was deceived by Naraku. His soul finally at peace, Hakushin drops the barrier entirely and ascends to Heaven. With the barrier gone, Naraku's evil aura pours out killing the vegetation, and many of his demons escape. Bankotsu, wanting revenge, blocks InuYasha's path to Naraku. They fight. Miroku and Sango meet Kagura again and she cuts the path out from below them plunging them into the depths of the mountain where they encounter the remains of many demons and the remains of some baby-like creations of Naraku. Koga, Kagome, Shippo, and Kirara enter the mountain looking for the others. InuYasha cuts Bankotsu in half. The rock of the mountain turns into flesh and partially envelopes InuYasha. It completely swallows Koga, and begins to drip acid on Kagome. Naraku's head appears and he explains that the mountain is now his body and they are all in his bowels, but he disclaims any interest in digesting them. Naraku takes all the jewel shards and uses them to complete his transformation to his new form which is immeasurably more powerful than previously. InuYasha uses the wind-scar against Naraku, but it just bounces around inside the mountain. Naraku says that it will only kill InuYasha and his friends.Graphic novel list

Summary = Naraku has trapped the energy of InuYasha's wind-scar so that it will bounce around inside Mount Hakurei until it reduces InuYasha's group to mince-meat. Kikyo sees Kagura leaving Mount Hakurei with an infant, and shoots a sacred arrow at her, narrowly missing. Kagura is about to fight back when the infant stops her. Kagome shoots a sacred arrow at Naraku, breaking his control of the energy of the wind-scar so that it dissipates and separating Koga from Naraku's bubble shield. Naraku causes Mount Hakurei to collapse, hoping to crush InuYasha's group. However, Miroku and Sango escape on Kirara; Kagome on Shippo; and InuYasha saves Koga. Naraku kills Kikyo, dumping her body in a river of his miasma to dissolve. Sesshomaru slices Naraku to bits, but Naraku's body just re-assembles and the force of Sesshomaru's attack is hurled back at him. Naraku leaves. InuYasha accuses Sesshomaru of allowing Kikyo to be killed. Sesshomaru says that Naraku killed her and InuYasha is the one who failed to save her. Naraku's main objective at Mount Hakurei was to remove his human heart so that he could kill Kikyo. InuYasha searches for Kikyo's remains, but cannot find any.Naraku's demons have killed the inhabitants of three villages. As InuYasha's group is burying them, a monk says that he saw Kikyo. InuYasha leaves to search for her again. The rest of the group are captured by soldiers, tied up, and taken away. Kagome is separated. The rest are to be executed arbitrarily along with several unlucky travelers. Shippo and Kirara hid to avoid capture and look for InuYasha. They encounter Naraku's demons and barely escape. They meet InuYasha and summon him back. Kagome meets Kagura, the monk (a dead man animated by Kagura's dance of the dead to trap her), and the infant. Sango breaks her bonds as she is about to be killed and cuts Miroku's ropes. They hold off the soldiers. The infant searches Kagome's soul for some evil, but has difficulty finding any. Finally, he seizes on her jealousy of InuYasha and Kikyo and tries to use this to control her. His objective is to use her ability to find jewel shards for Naraku. InuYasha arrives and defeats the soldiers. But Kagome has been carried away by Kagura. Kagura tries to put a tainted shard into Kagome to solidify their control of her, but she rejects it. InuYasha arrives and rescues her. InuYasha uses the wind-scar on Kagura, Kanna, and the infant, but it is reflected back at him by their shield. InuYasha and Kagome argue about Kikyo.
Kagome returns home. Naraku finds out where the last jewel shard is from a demon, Mimisenri, who can hear everything. It is in the netherworld. InuYasha goes to modern Tokyo and brings Kagome back to the Feudal era.
Men whose skin has been removed are being dumped in a river by a village of women. The men are being skinned by a hanging picture scroll worshiped by the women. InuYasha's group meet Shinosuke who is looking for his missing fiancee, Wakana. They visit the village of women. The women falsely deny having Wakana, but invite the group to stay the night. The women (Kagome, Sango, Kirara) are separated from the men (InuYasha, Miroku, Shippo, Shinosuke). The picture scroll tells Wakana to bring Shinosuke.Graphic novel list

Summary = Kagome questions Sango about what happened between her and Miroku at Mount Hakurei. Sango denies liking Miroku, but protests too much, revealing her jealousy. Kagome says that Miroku treasures Sango. Just then, Miroku walks by with a woman from the village who he offers to "comfort". A little later, the women of the village file past. Sango puts on her armor and follows them, resisting Kagome's suggestion that they first summon InuYasha and Miroku. Kagome gets InuYasha and they try to catch up with Sango. Sango follows the women to a lake where they seem to have disappeared. Suddenly, the women reach out of the water and drag Sango under. The village woman brings Miroku to the temple of the picture scroll. They are about to make love when the picture scroll attacks Miroku. It turns out to be a salamander demon who was skinned and sealed into the scroll. Naraku's evil aura allowed it to escape, but it needs the skins of men to restore its normal form. It is controlling the village women via its eggs in their stomachs. Shinosuke and Wakana arrive at the temple. Wakana breaks through the control long enough to tell Shinosuke to run. Miroku injures the demon and it flees towards the lake. Miroku punches the two women in their stomachs driving out the demon's eggs and freeing them from its control. InuYasha and Kagome arrive at the lake and begin fighting with the women and the demon. Miroku joins them. InuYasha kills the demon, but the women keep fighting. Miroku and Kirara go into the lake to find Sango. Sango has been possessed by an egg and fights with them. Sango injures Miroku several times before he can punch her stomach and release her. Kagome and InuYasha destroy the other eggs. Shinosuke and Wakana return to their home village. Miroku tells Sango about his feelings for her. At first it sounds like he is telling her that they should just be friends, but then he proposes to her. She accepts, agreeing to have as many children as he wants. Then she asks him to stop chasing other women, but he does not answer.Kagura takes Naraku's infant to various priests. She kills the priests while the infant communes with their spirits to try to learn about the after-life. One of the priests cuts the infant in half, forming
Akago andHakudōshi . Kagura takes the two seemingly dead halves to Kanna. Kanna takes Akago and says that Kagura should care for Hakudoshi. The death of that priest releases a flying horse demon, Entei, whom he had imprisoned. Hakudoshi revives, now aged to a child. Entei joins Hakudoshi and carries him through the air. Entei breaths fire at InuYasha's group. InuYasha retaliates with the wind-scar which is blocked by Hakudoshi's spiritual barrier. Hakudoshi tells them that he was Naraku's infant and that he saw a jewel shard in the after-life. As Chokyukai is using anagamaki to kill a man, Entei crushes him and Hakudoshi takes his nagamaki. Hakudoshi begins beheading demons and using their heads to see into the after-life. One of the beheaded demons was an otter demon whose head washed away before Hakudoshi could retrieve it. The otter's son recovered his father's head, but lost track of his body. InuYasha's group help him find the body. Drawn by the urging of Tenseiga, Sesshomaru arrives just before them. Kagome and Shippo plead for Sesshomaru to revive the otter demon, but Sesshomaru is not interested in helping them. However, Tenseiga again urges him to act, so he relents and uses it to revive the otter. The otter tells them about his experience in the after-life. Before he can be thanked, Sesshomaru leaves.InuYasha and Kagome recognize the place in the after-life as the grave-site of InuYasha's father. InuYasha goes to Toto-sai's place and asks Myoga how to get there. Myoga says that they must ask an oyster demon, Hosenki, for a pearl which can link this world and the next. InuYasha's group finds Hosenki's son who says that his father died of old age and it will take the son 100 years to make a pearl for them. The saimyosho discover another path and tell Hakudoshi. Hakudoshi has Kagura tell InuYasha about the gate in the realm of fire, holding back the fact that InuYasha will die forcing the gate open. Hakudoshi plans to go through right after that.Graphic novel list

When InuYasha indicates his intention to enter the afterlife, Gozu and Mezu try to kill him because the living are not allowed to cross over. They are invulnerable to the attacks of InuYasha and Miroku. At Myoga's suggestion, InuYasha breaks the chain holding the gate closed. They encounter refugees traveling to the village of the holy woman who can protect them from the bird demons. The holy woman's whole body is veiled and she communicates through her assistants, Kocho and Asuka. InuYasha's group expect the bird demons to attack the people gathering at the village of the holy woman. So they go with the refugees. They are attacked by bird demons backed up by Kagura and Hakudoshi mounted on Entei. They realize that this is a diversion and stalling tactic — Princess Abi and the main force of bird demons are attacking the holy woman's village. InuYasha uses the wind scar on Hakudoshi, but Hakudoshi's barrier reflects it. The holy woman appears and shoots a sacred arrow which destroys Hakudoshi's barrier. InuYasha uses the wind scar again killing Entei and wounding Hakudoshi. Kagura flees with Hakudoshi. The holy woman disappears. InuYasha's group suspect that the holy woman is
Kikyo , even though the holy woman does not have her scent. Naraku's group reach the same conclusion. At the village, Princess Abi and the bird demons are held at bay by a spiritual shield. Asuka tells the villagers to stay inside the shield no matter what happens. The bird demons cover part of the shield with fire. Some villagers, frightened by the fire, run out the other side. They are attacked by the bird demons. The holy woman arrives and kills the bird demons with a sacred arrow. Princess Abi flees. The holy woman pursues Princess Abi. InuYasha's group arrive at village. They hear what happened and decide to look for the holy woman figuring that Naraku will try to kill her.
At Kaede's village, Kocho and Asuka take soil from Kikyo's grave. They fly to the forbidden mountain and pour it into a pool at the base of a waterfall. InuYasha's group arrive at the forbidden mountain. Naraku's demons also show up. Some of them are destroyed by a sacred arrow fired by the holy woman. The rest fight with InuYasha's group which separate. InuYasha destroys some demons and then meets the holy woman. Kocho and Asuka tell him that she is dying from Naraku's miasma and cannot speak. The holy woman is cut down by Kagura. She appears to be Kikyo's spirit, but dissolves away. Kagura explains that the sacred arrows were smeared with soil from
Onigumo 's cave to make them toxic to Naraku and his incarnations. Meanwhile, Kagome follows soul collectors to the waterfall. She sees Kikyo's body in the pool. Kocho and Asuka ask Kagome whether she will save Kikyo which only she can do.Graphic novel list
