Tyrone Prothro (born May 24, 1984, in Heflin, Alabama) is a former American football wide receiver who played for the University of Alabama.cite web | title="Tyrone Prothro" | work=rolltide.com | url=http://www.rolltide.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=37424&SPID=3011&DB_OEM_ID=8000&ATCLID=509985&Q_SEASON=2006| accessdate=2007-02-17]

Prothro won the 2006 ESPY Award and the Pontiac Game Changing Award of the Year for Best Play for his outstanding catch, [cite web| url=http://www.cleburnenews.com/news/2006/cn-local-0721-0-6g21j5246.htm| title=Ex-Cleburne star snags ESPN's top sports award| date=2006-07-21| accessdate=2008-06-26| publisher="The Cleburne News"] cite web| url=http://media.www.cw.ua.edu/media/storage/paper959/news/2006/07/13/Sports/Prothro.Hauls.In.Award.For.the.Catch-2866661.shtml| title=Prothro hauls in award for 'The Catch'| date=2007-07-21| accessdate=2008-06-26| publisher="The Crimson White"] labeled by many as "the Catch", in which he caught the ball behind the head of Southern Mississippi's Jasper Faulk on a Hail Mary pass from quarterback Brodie Croyle right before half-time in the game on September 10, 2005 in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Prothro's catch helped the Tide defeat Southern Mississippi 30–21. It was the highest ranked college play on the list, and ranked even higher than such memorable plays as "The Catch".

Collegiate career

Prior to the 2005 season, Prothro was named second-team All-SEC [cite web| url=http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2112523| title=LSU lands three on first team| date=2005-07-20| accessdate=2008-06-26| publisher=ESPN.com] and, despite his injury, was named to the second-team All-SEC at the end of the season. Injury

He later suffered a complete fracture of both major bones (tibia and fibula) of his lower left leg against the University of Florida on October 1, 2005, ending his junior season. On August 3 2007, he was placed on a medical hardship scholarship and taken off the football roster with coach Nick Saban saying there was no way Prothro could play again.
