- GER Class E22
The GER Class E22 was a class of
0-6-0 steamtank locomotive s designed by James Holden for theGreat Eastern Railway . They passed to theLondon and North Eastern Railway at thegrouping in 1923 and received the LNER classification J65.Overview
These had either 4ft. 0in. or 4ft. 2in. coupled wheels (sources are contradictory, see [ [http://www.steamindex.com/locotype/gerloco.htm Great Eastern locomotive designs ] ] and [ [http://www.lner.info/locos/J/j65.shtml The Holden J65 (GER Class E22) 0-6-0T Locomotives ] ] ), 14 x 20 in. cylinders and were lighter than the class. They were reboilered between
1889 and1912 . TheMacallan variable blastpipe was removed from1924 . They ran as2-4-0 Ts on theFenchurch Street to Blackwall service and were sometimes known as "Blackwall tanks". They operated on theStoke Ferry , Eye andMid-Suffolk Light Railway branches. They became extinct in1956 . [(RCTS 1983:70-73)]Notes
