Dina Aschehoug

Dina Aschehoug (1861–1956) was a Norwegian painter.

Dina Engel Laurentse Aschehoug was born in Asker, Norway. She studied at Vilhelm Kyhn's drawing school in Copenhagen between 1880 and 1882, and then became a student of Eilif Peterssen and Erik Werenskiold in Kristiania. She later studied at the Académie Colarossi in Paris and at Academy for women (Akademiet for Kvinder) in Copenhagen. Her father was a provost, and obeying his wishes, she aborted her artistic training. She later became a teacher at Sylow's School for Girls and the Industrial School for Women for twenty years. In the years between 1911 and 1924 she lived in Copenhagen.

Dina Aschehoug painted in particular interiors and portraits, and she created several altarpieces for Norwegian churches. In 1906 she painted the former altarpiece in Komnes kirke, a church in Kongsberg municipality, Buskerud county. The altarpiece was subsequently moved to the nearby Efteløt church where it hangs on one of the long walls.[1]
