Best Flow Products

Best Flow Products is a wholly owned subsidiary of National Oilwell Varco. The company manufactures and distributes a range of pressure control devices for the oil and gas industry including adjustable choke valves and hydraulic stepping actuators.

In 1958, the company was founded as Best Industries. In 1977, Varco International purchased Best Industries and changed the name to Varco/Best Flow Products. In 1992, the Shaffer Company was purchased by Varco International and the product lines were merged.

Best Flow Products’ flagship adjustable choke valve is the Maximum Performance Cage choke (MPC) which sets the industry standard for choke valve engineering. The valve features a patented seat wear monitor that detects washout in the sear sleeve before erosion can damage the body of the choke. Its patented closed cage completely encloses the areas of the cage which are susceptible to turbulence created by the pressure drop and utilize principles of flow impingement to dissipate the energy of the flow stream, thereby extending the service life of the product by reducing cavitational and erosional wear within the valve. This design also has a secondary benefit of reducing noise levels in the choke to under 85 dBA. For highly corrosive or erosive environments, tungsten carbide or inconel throttling and plug components are utilized to provide the highest level of wear resistance possible.
