KFXO-LP is a low-power television station in Bend, Oregon, broadcasting on channel 39 as an affiliate of the Fox network. The station was owned by Meredith Corporation but sold May 24th and is referred to on the air as Fox Central Oregon. Even though the station uses the -LP suffix in its call letters, KFXO is officially licensed as a Class A television station.

In late-2006, it was announced that Meredith would sell KFXO and KBND to the News-Press & Gazette Company, owners of the local NBC affiliate, KTVZ. Meantime the local cable operator, Bend Broadband, filed a petition with FCC to block the proposed sale of the station. The sale was completed on May 24, 2007.

History

KFXO-LP began as K39DU on November 17 1993 as a satellite of KPDX, the Fox affiliate in Portland, Oregon then owned by First Media. On December 18 1995 K39DU became KFXO-LP. Meredith acquired KFXO and KPDX in 1997 when Meredith bought out First Media. KFXO was a satellite of KPDX, the Fox affiliate in Portland, Oregon until 2002, when KPDX became a UPN affiliate. At that point, KFXO became its own self-sufficient station though some operations continued and the simulcasts of KPDX's newscasts (by then cancelled) were replaced with that of sister station and new Fox affiliate KPTV.

In 2008, broadcasts on channel 41 regularly exhibited several-second delays between images and sound, making it extremely difficult to watch.

Newscast

In April 2006, KFXO began airing its own 10:00 p.m. newscast. On June 22, 2007, KFXO's 10:00 p.m. newscast was replaced by a newscast produced in the KTVZ studio.
