Chettinad Vidyashram Motto The Golden Mean Established 1986 Students ~9000 Location Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India Website www.cvs.ac.in Chettinad Vidyashram is a private school which was founded by the Kumara Rani of Chettinad Dr. Meena Muthiah in 1986. She is affectionately called "Meena Aunty" by her students. The school is located in the R.A Puram area in the city of Chennai, India. The principal is Mrs. Amudha Lakshmi. The school is one of the biggest schools in Chennai,with about 800 faculty members and around ten thousand students. Chettinad students are also called "CV'IANS".
The school enrolls children from kindergarten to high school. It is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, India. The medium of instruction is English. Two other languages from Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit or French,german are mandatory.

History
In 1986, Kumara Rani Dr Meena Muthiah, founded the school with a motivation "to start an educational centre, combining the virtues of a Temple of Art and Culture - a dedicated school that blends discipline with freedom, endeavoring to raise the integrated child".

Facilities
The school has a massive library, five science laboratories, one biotechnology laboratory, two mathematics laboratories, two language laboratories and two audio-visual theatres with multi-media projection systems. Chettinad Vidyashram was one of the first CBSE schools in India to introduce Biotechnology as a specialization for class XI & XII students. [1].
Every year the theater group of the school, the Chettinad Players, perform a play on characters from the epics of Indian mythology including plays like Karna, Vaali Vadham, Bheeshma, Lankeshwara Raavana, Kurukshetra, Raghuvamsam, krishna. They are performed in the Kumara Raja Muthaiah auditorium that can seat up to 1200 people. The auditorium is used for the Jaya TV show Margazhi Maha Utsavam that takes place every year. The students also perform Sanskrit and Tamil plays.
The school has two swimming pools and facilities to play tennis, cricket, basketball, chess, gymnastics, badminton, football, hockey, table tennis and volleyball. The school has mandatory coaching in arts, music and dance up to primary school level, beyond which students can pursue activities of their choice. It also provides activities such as tanjore painting, violin, mridangam and flute. It has an English lab, math lab and science lab.
The school has a NCC and Girl Guides wing, which aims to develop qualities of character, courage and leadership.
The annual sports day is conducted in September, an inter-school cultural meet (Maithri) or Science fair (Trishna) is held in October/November/December, and an Annual Day in February. Students of Classes IX and XI host a Farewell Party for the outgoing students in February every year. There is a reunion party for the alumni, on the last Sunday of June every year.
The Tamil and Hindi literary clubs organize competitions. Occasionally, events of public importance like blood donation camps are held.
The school has an annual magazine called "Vision".
