Caparica is known for its numerous beaches. The beaches are very popular in the summer, due to their proximity to Lisbon, which is located across the Tagus River from Caparica. These beaches have suffered from erosion in recent years. The Portuguese government has taken steps to reduce these patterns, but the erosion has continued at several of the beaches located closest to the mouth of the Tagus.[1]
