single 3 date =February 25 ,2008 "Based On A True Story" is the second album from
American Idol finalist,Kimberley Locke . Kimberley chose this title because the songs on the album, 8 of which co-written by Kimberley herself, tell the true story of the emotions she dealt with during and after her relationship with her ex-fiance. She found that when she sat and talked with her collaborators about the issues she was working through, the songs began to write themselves. The album made an uneventful debut on the Billboard Charts, landing at #160 and selling only 4,842 copies its first week.Fact|date=August 2008 It fell off the chart in its second week. It peaked at #86 on the American
iTunes Top 100 Album Chart.Critical reception
The album was poorly received by
Entertainment Weekly , which commented that Locke "fail [ed] to inject personality into these songs" and that she is "unshackled by the constraints of genre". It gave the album a "C" rating. However, EW readers gave it a B. Bernstein, Jonathan [http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20038386,00.html "Based On A True Story"] Entertainment Weekly, May 9, 2007] Billboard Magazine was much more impressed by the album, referring to it as "powerfully performed and perfectly presented," and to Locke herself as "a major new artist in the making." Only a month before the release of the album, a decision was made for Kimberley to record her versions of "Fall" and "Band of Gold". The label was so impressed by these recordings that two songs that had previously been recorded, "What I Gotta Do" and "Hey DJ (Let That Song Play)", were cut from the album. They remain unreleased.
