Sporting Clube de Praia had won a championship in 1962, later they win their first title after independence in 1985, 1991, 1997, 2002 and 2006 beating the team known as
Académico do Aeroporto from Espargos on Sal Island, during the semi-finals they won the most points, six before entering the finals and lost in the first leg and won in the second leg and claimed the title for the 2005-06 season, a year later, the team claimed their second title in a row in the 2006-07 season and also were the championships of the island's south zone, yet again received their third title in 2007-08 season.Sporting Clube de Praia has been in the playoffs and reached the finals during the other times but never claimed the title, they lost to
CS Mindelense 2-0 and 0-1 in the 1988 finals, in the 2004-05 season, the team versusDerby FC was tied in the first leg, the team lost 4-3 to Derby and were the 2004-05 champions.In the 2007/08 season, there were protests by fans over Académica's loss on
