Srivaikuntam is a panchayat town in Toothukudi district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of the river Thamirabarani

Geography

Srivaikuntam is located at coord|8.62|N|77.93|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/25/Srivaikuntam.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Srivaikuntam] ] . It has an average elevation of 17 metres (55 feet). The town is located on the north bank of the Thamirabarani river. It is 30 KM east of Tirunelveli and 30 KM west of Tiruchendur.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Srivaikuntam had a population of 16,214. Males constitute 48% of the population and females 52%. Srivaikuntam has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 72%. In Srivaikuntam, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
