Shorapur is a town in Gulbarga district in the Indian state of Karnataka.

Geography

Shorapur is located at coord|16.52|N|76.75|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/19/Shorapur.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Shorapur] ] . It has an average elevation of 472 metres (1548 feet).Earlier it was known as Surpur.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Shorapur had a population of 43,591. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Shorapur has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 46%. In Shorapur, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.
