Pampore or Pampur is a town and a notified area committee in Pulwama district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Geography

Pampore is located at coord|34.02|N|74.93|E. [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/12/Pampur.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Pampore] ] It has an average elevation of 1,574 metres (5,164 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Pampore had a population of 46,595. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Pampore has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 49%. In Pampore, 7% of the population is under 6 years of age.

History

This area stands for the peace and is taken as the most peaceful area of the state. Pampore is historically important town because here the famous Sufi poetess "Lala Ded" used to live and also because of the presence of the descendants of famous and historic ruling dynasty of Mir's. Pampore is also famous for its saffron fields. Pampore is a rich town in terms of education, economy and many other natural resources.

As Kashmir is a Muslim state almost 90% of the people here are Muslims.so mostly people are always engaged in religious works. there is a Islamic study center labeled as "Muhammadian Institute of Quran and Science" . Where the students of any age group weather it may be old young or child he is to be taught about the teaching of Islam.
