Padmapur (also known as Padampur) is a town and a notified area committee in Bargarh district in the Indian state of Orissa.

Geography

Padmapur is located at coord|21.0|N|83.07|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/21/Padmapur.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Padmapur] ] . It has an average elevation of 205 metres (672 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Padmapur had a population of 15,438. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Padmapur has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 60%. In Padmapur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Politics

Current MLA from Padmapur Assembly Constituency is Satya Bhushan Sahu of INC, who won the seat in State elections in 2004. He also won this seat earlier in 1985 for INC and in 1980 representing INC(I). Other previous MLAs from this seat were Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha who won this seat for BJD in 2000 and for JD in 1995 and in 1990, and Bir Bikramadiya Singh Bariha of JNP who won in 1977. [cite web
