Nambol is a city and a municipal council in Bishnupur district in the Indian state of Manipur. Nambol is one of the educational hubs of Bishnupur district as well as for Manipur. The city has two colleges, Nambol L. Sanoi College [Govt. College] and S.K. Women College, [private]. The city has many schools, among them which are in high demand with good pass out percentage and boarding facilities are St. John English High School, The Special Regular English School, and Bethal English School. The Two Higher Secondary Schools, Leirel Hr. Sec. School, and Nambol Higher Sec. School produces many meritorious students per year. There is a Law College, and a private college, Thambal Marik College just in the outskirt of Nambol.

Demographics

As of 2001^[update] India census,^[2] Nambol had a population of 18,117. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Nambol has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 59%. In Nambol, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Politics

Nambol is part of Inner Manipur (Lok Sabha constituency).^[3] Current sitting Minister from this constituency is L.Lokendro, from Congress I.

Festivals

The most popular festival is the Lai Haraoba which is celebrated on top of the Khoriphaba Hill. Other popular Lai Haraoba are Ibudhou Loyalakpa, Kongkham; Chaningleima, Phoijing et al. It is celebrated in other part of Manipur also. But the one of Nambol is widely renowned...

Tourism

Maibam Lokpa Hill is famous for its part in the Indo-Japanese War, 1944. The Japan War Memorial at Nambol Maibam Lokpa Hill is a hot destination for Foreign Tourists, especially from Japan and American tourists. Khoriphaba Hill is very famous for its Lai Haraoba festival during the summer season. During this festival many local tourist flocks to see the nightlong celebrations.It can be said this is the biggest worshipping of nature in its own kind.
