Jalesar is a city and a municipal board in Etah district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is concted by road to other towns such as Hathras,Etah,Aligarh and it is approx 40 km from Agra.

Geography

Jalesar is located at coord|27.48|N|78.32|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/36/Jalesar.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Jalesar] ] . It has an average elevation of 173 metres (567 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Jalesar had a population of 35,662. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Jalesar has an average literacy rate of 48%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 54%, and female literacy is 40%. In Jalesar city by SANJAY YADAV, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.

History

Jalesar contains great treasure of historic events from Mahabharat Kal of Dwapar Yug to Chhawani of Marathas to the Command Camp of the English to keep watch on freedom fighters. Ruins of the fort made by King Jarasandh are still available at Jalesar which provides the evidence of its connection with Mahabharat Kal.

Tourism

Patna Bird Sanctuary is a lovely place to visit. Jalesar is a ciy of brass and famous for its 'Pital Udhyog'. Jalesar is known for its cast bells, the major component of whose brass isiron [http://pisrd.org/reports/StoneCarving/Chapter%20I.pdf] .
