John Flanagan (born May 22, 1944) is an Australian author. He is currently living in Australia with his family writing books. His best known work is the Ranger's Apprentice (series). It is about a boy named Will who becomes adopted as a Ranger's Apprentice to the grim and mysterious Halt.

Biography

Prior to becoming a novelist, John Flanagan did advertising and television commercials. He originally wrote the books for his son to encourage him to read. He started the series over 10 years ago and is still at work on them today.

In 2008, he won the Australian Publishers Association's Book of the Year for Older Children and the International Success Award for "Rangers Apprentice 7: Erak's Ransom". * "Ranger's Apprentice Book 1: The Ruins of Gorlan""The Ruins of Gorlan" starts off the series by introducing all the characters and helps you get to know them

* "Ranger's Apprentice Book 2: The Burning Bridge""The Burning Bridge" shows how the characters, mainly Horace, have changed and turns into a rescue mission when they meet an unusual person whose name is "Evanlyn"

* "Ranger's Apprentice Book 3: The Icebound Land""The Icebound Land" carries on from where book 2 left off. Will and Evanlyn were captured by Skandians and later on, he has to rely on the wits and courage of Evanlyn.

* "Ranger's Apprentice Book 4: Oakleaf Bearers""The Oakleaf Bearers", also known as The Battle For Skandia in America, tells how Will and Halt are reunited and how they fight with the Skandians against the Temujai. Will they win or will all hope be lost...?

* "Ranger's Apprentice Book 5: Sorcerer in the North""Sorcerer in the North" in the Ranger's Apprentice series, Sorcerer in the North, tells of Will Treaty's first post as a Ranger of Araluen in a small fief called Seacliff. Shortly, though, Will has to go off undercover as a musician to find information to substantiate the rumors of a sorcerer in the woods near Castle Macindaw. Plots are uncovered, hostages taken, and the book ends without resolution.

* "Ranger's Apprentice Book 6: The Siege of Macindaw""The Siege of Macindaw" in the series is a continuation of the storyline that was left open in the previous book. Will, Horace, and new allies and friends have to work out how to foil the scheming of a new and charismatic villain...

* "Ranger's Apprentice Book 7: Erak's Ransom""Erak's Ransom" is not in chronological order, instead documenting an adventure of Will and company's that was set after the fourth book and before 'Sorcerer in the North'. Will, along with Halt, Horace, Evanlyn, and some Skandian allies, has to go and find a way to get Erak released after he was captured by the natives of Arrida, a desert land.
