- Eifionydd
Eifionydd ("Prononced Ayvionith") is an area in north-west
Wales covering the south-eastern part of theLlŷn peninsula fromPorthmadog to just east ofPwllheli . The river Erch forms its western border. It now lies inGwynedd .The cantref of Eifionydd formed the northern half of the former minor kingdom of
Dunoding within theKingdom of Gwynedd . It traditionally took its name fromEifion , son ofDunod who gave his name to the cantref and grandson ofCunedda Wledig . The chief centre of the commote was atCriccieth , although there may have been an earlier royal residence atDolbenmaen . Although it is not currently a unit of local government, the name is still in common use for the region. It includes the villages ofAbererch ,Llanaelhaearn ,Pencaenewydd ,Llangybi ,Llanystumdwy ,Rhoslan ,Pentrefelin ,Penmorfa ,Garndolbenmaen ,Bryncir andPantglas .References
