Originally built by the
Great Central Railway in 1912 to servce the newley opened Immingham Docks, it was taken over by theLNER and laterEastern Region of British Railways postWorld War II .In 1950, it had 120 attached locomotives, which by 1965 with a shed code of 40B, had been reduced to only 27. Locomotive types deployed include
LNER Thompson Class B1 ,LMS Stanier Class 8F , andBR standard class 9F . The shed closed to steam in 1966, one of the last in the Eastern region to do so. [ [http://www.leytransport.i12.com/immingha.htm immingham ] ]Present
The depot is operated by the English, Welsh & Scottish Railway, and is a separate entity from Immingham Railfreight Terminal. The depot code is IM.
