Stewarts Lane TMD

Stewarts Lane TMD is a railway Traction Maintenance Depot situated in London, England, and operated by EWS. The depot code was 73A in the steam era and is now SL.

Stewarts Lane is also home to the Gatwick Express, Venice Simplon Orient Express (VSOE Southern Division) and to two steam locomotives which operate the VSOE trains from London Victoria. SR 4-6-2 Battle of Britain Class Tangmere is one of only two operatational steam locomotives, the other (SR 4-6-2 Merchant Navy Class Clan Line) has just had a heavy boiler and mechanical overhaul lasting just over 5½ years. In November 2006 Clan Line was steamed for the first time and completed her first test run from London to Eastleigh and back; hopefully she will be returning shortly to the VSOE.
