Kidd Mine an underground
base metal mine in the city of Timmins,Ontario . It is owned and operated byXstrata Copper, following the August 2006 takeover ofFalconbridge Ltd. Apart from the underground mine, there is a coppersmelter , copperrefinery , zinc, cadmium, indium and sulfuric acid plants (collectively they are all referred to as the "Met Site"). Kidd's concentrating, smelting and refining processes are among the most advanced in the world.History

Kidd Creek has three shafts known as the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 mines. Mine D (or D Shaft) was completed in 2006 to access reserves below the 6,800 foot level. This will extend the life of the mine to at least 2017, and will make it the deepest base metal orebody being mined in the world. The resources to be accessed are estimated at 24.4 million tonnes of 2.90% copper, 5.77% zinc, 0.25% lead and 75 grams per tonne silver.Fact|date=February 2007
