Anugul (also known as Angul) is a town and a notified area committee in Anugul district in the state of Orissa, India.

Geography

Anugul is located at coord|21.21|N|86.11|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/21/Angul.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Anugul] ] . It has an average elevation of m to ft|195|m|abbr=on.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Anugul had a population of 38,022. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Anugul has an average literacy rate of 80%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 58% of the males and 42% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Politics

Current MLA from Angul Assembly Constituency is Rajani Kant Singh of BJD, who won the seat in State elections of 2004. Adwait Prasad Singh had won this seat in 2000 as BJD candidate, in 1990 as JD candidate and in 1977 as JNP candidate. Earlier MLAs from this seat were Ramesh Jena of INC in 1995, Prafulla Mishra of INC in 1985, and Santosh Kumar Pradhan of INC(I) in 1980. [cite web
