Early career
Michael started fishing at an early age where he regularly hunted for trout, panfish, and salwater fish. He would then come to enjoy fishing for bass with artificial baits. As a young man in grade school he regularly practiced and learned about new baits and ways of catching bass. By the time he graduated high school he had already joined a local bass club and was now experiencing a new competitive aspect of bass fishing. Michael then sought after a college degree, backing his plan to make a living off of fishing. Iaconelli graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Rowan University in 1996. While in college he had a job as a disc jockey.[2]
B.A.S.S.
His first major win was to place in the 1994 BASS top 100 amateur anglers, where he was presented with a brand new Ranger [3] bass boat, allowing him to upgrade from his previous 12 foot john boat.[4] He went on to win the 2003 Bassmaster Classic. He was also the 2006 Bassmaster Angler of the Year.
Iaconelli's sponsors include Dick's Sporting Goods, Berkley,[5] Tru-Tungsten,[6] HOOAH! Bar, Abu Garcia,[7] Cocoons,[8] Toyota,[9] Bass Cat, SpiderWire, and Yamaha.

Iaconelli won the 2003 Bassmasters Classic and also won angler of the year award in 2006.[10] Michael came in 2nd place in the 2009 Bassmaster Classic, just behind the winner by 11 ounces.
