Peace Through Education Project

The Peace Through Education Project (PTEP) is a foundation dedicated to create a worldwide association of schools. It aims to do this through the collection of funds for an endowment to support a school and then replicate itself by apportioning funds from the endowment to create sister schools around the world.

The project is presently managed under the auspices of the National Heritage Foundation, a 501(c)3 publicly-supported charitable organization. The unique aspect to PTEP is its design as a self-replicating nonprofit.

According to the foundation, all the schools that will be originated from the foundation will work from a set of principals common to all schools (subject types, student to teacher ratios, mission), but each school would have its own variation and interpretation, based on cultural and geographical constraints. The foundation attempts a legal manifestation of the biological reproduction-with-variation model.

Two historical antecedents PTEP uses to explain its design are the Milton Hershey School in Pennsylvania that was established with a large fund donated by the chocolate magnate in 1917, and Benjamin Franklin's 200 year experiment in compound interest to do public good works.
