Teesport is a large
sea port located in the borough ofRedcar and Cleveland and the ceremonial county ofNorth Yorkshire in North-East ofEngland . It is one of theUnited Kingdom 's three largest portscite web |url=http://www.pdports.co.uk/ |title=PD Ports plc |accessdate=2006-05-11] and lies three miles (5 km) to the east ofMiddlesbrough . It is currently owned by PD Ports, a division ofBabcock & Brown .The port covers an area of 200
hectare s (2 square kilometres) of land alongside the Southern bank of theRiver Tees . At its heart is Tees Dock, a deep-water facility some 5nautical mile s (9 km) from the sea. Teesport handles over 6,000 ships a year. Plus it is strongly associated with petrochemicals, manufacturing and engineering. Teesport handles over 56 million tonnes of cargo annually. The estate is rail connected and close to the A66 trans-pennine route, and to other major trunk roads.Facilities include two Container Quays, one a 294
