Group Army

Group Army

A Group Army (集團軍), is a major form of Chinese military organization, and is equivalent to field army or army group in other militaries. A Group Army usually exercises command over two or more field armies, or several corps, and other lesser units. The People’s Liberation Army has 18 regular Group Armies. However, a modern Group Army in China contains anywhere between 15,000 to 30,000 men, equivilent to a Western Division.

By the end of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the National Revolutionary Army had organized 40 Group Armies. These were roughly equivalent to a field army in other military terminology.
