Henryk Modest Broder (born Henryk Marcin Broder on
August 20 ,1946 ) is a Germanjournalist andauthor . Broder is well known for hispolemic s andColumns and his comments in written and oral media. Broder writes for the magazine "Der Spiegel " as well as its online version and the dailyBerlin newspaper "Der Tagesspiegel ". He is co-editor of "Der Jüdische Kalender" ("The Jewish Calendar"), a compilation of quotes and texts relating to Jewish-German culture, which is published annually.Topics comprise among others

Katowice ,Poland , Broder moved toCologne with his family in 1958. Here, he studiedeconomics andlaw . In the end of the 1960s he took over the "St. Pauli-Nachrichten ", a newspaper inHamburg , along withGünter Wallraff and the photogropherGünter Zint , in order to agitate the working class of the city. In the 1970s, he wrote for the satirical magazine "Pardon". In 1981, he worked inIsrael for a short time, but continued to write for suchperiodical s as "Die Zeit ", "Profil", "Die Weltwoche ", and "Süddeutsche Zeitung ". In the 1980s he also hosted the television talk-show "Leute", which ran onSender Freies Berlin , along withElke Heidenreich .He wrote a series of books which dealt with the relationship between Germans and Jews respectively the growing German Jewish community. Eike Geisel , Broder had published essays and books and a documentary film about Jüdischer Kulturbund (Jewish Cultural Union), a previously-unknown chapter of Jewish German cultural life during the Nazi area. He wrote a series of books which dealt with the relationship between German Jews, foreign policy with special regard to Israel and Islam and the growing German Jewish community.Ever since
