Kamo District, Hiroshima

(Japan > Hiroshima Prefecture > Kamo District)

Kamo (賀茂郡; -gun) was a district located in Hiroshima Prefecture until 2005. On March 22, 2005 the town of Daiwa merged with the city of Mihara and two towns to form the city of Mihara at which point the district officially ceased to exist. The district is now turned into the Aki-ku, city of Hiroshima, Kure, Takehara, Higashihiroshima, and Mihara.

かつてはこの地域が京都賀茂神社荘園であったことに由来する「賀茂」の名前は学校名(「広島県立賀茂高等学校」、「広島県立賀茂北高等学校」)この地域で作られる酒の名前「賀茂鶴」「賀茂輝」「賀茂泉」など地元企業名に残すのみとなった。

* April 1, 1889 Municipal status enforcement. They were 39 villages within the district.
* April 17, 1889 The village of Shimoichi renamed and gained town status to become the town of Takehara(1 town, 38 villages).
* October 1, 1890 The village of Yokkaichijirōmaru renamed and gained town status to become the town of Saijō(2 towns, 37 villages).
* April 12, 1893 The village of Mitsu gained town status to become the town of Mitsu(3 towns, 36 villages).
* January 1, 1896 The village of Uchinoumi gained town status to become the town of Uchinoumi(4 towns, 35 villages).
* May 1, 1897 The village of Aga gained town status to become the town of Aga(5 towns, 34 villages).
* January 1, 1907 The village of Nigata gained town status to become the town of Nigata(6 towns, 33 villages).
