Kamo District, Shizuoka

Kamo (賀茂郡; -gun) is a district located in Shizuoka, Japan.

As of 2003, the district has an estimated population of 53,208 and a density of 110.86 persons per km². The total area is 479.94 km².

There are five towns in the district.
*Higashiizu
*Kawazu
*Matsuzaki
*Minamiizu
*Nishiizu

Also, the Kamo Region is compromised with all five towns within the district and the city of Shimoda.

History

*January 1, 1971 - the town of Shimoda gained city status.
*April 1, 2005 - The towns of Nishiizu and Kamo merged to create the town of Nishiizu.
*Around March 31, 2010, the city of Shimoda and three municipalities in Kamo District (Kawazu, Matsuzaki, and Minamiizu) will merge.http://www.kokudo.or.jp/new/cities/sub/chubu/22.htm]
