It includes all of the coastal communities surrounding Monterey Bay, the city of Salinas, as well as the vast majority of the Salinas River Valley, one of the most fertile agricultural areas in the United States. It is one of 53 congressional districts in California. The current Representative for this district is Democrat Sam Farr.
