HMS "Locust" was a river
gunboat of theRoyal Navy , one of the her class of four gunboats and is named after thelocust , aninsect .Launched
September 28 1939 and commissioned inMay 17 1940 , it survivedWorld War II service, but was severely damaged multiple times (including taking a shell hit inOperation Overlord ).It was placed in reserves in
1946 , until1951 when it was converted to a drill ship and used for training. In1968 it was finally decommissioned and sent to the breakers.References
