- Llanwrin
Llanwrin (Audio|Llanwrin.ogg|pronunciation) is a small village in the valley of the
Afon Dyfi inPowys about two miles north-east ofMachynlleth . Historically, it was in the county ofMontgomeryshire ( _cy. Sir Drefaldwyn). The village is named after its church, dedicated toSt. Gwrin .Once a thriving community with its own
Blacksmiths ,Public House and Shop, all long since closed, in recent years the village has been a collection of houses stretched along theB4404 road. During 2007, building work has started on some new houses near to the centre of the village, with a hope to revitalise the local area.Llanwrin is famous locally, for its "Strawman" which occasionally appears sitting on the bench on the small triangle shaped
village green . Nobody knows where he comes from, or where he suddenly disappears to, but he is missed when he is not around.External links
