- Langage Power Station
Langage Power Station is to be constructed near the city of
Plymouth inDevon .Centrica , owners of the site, announced on16 June 2006 that the gas firedpower station is to be constructed on their behalf byAlstom . The 885MW plant is expected to cost £400m and to start generating in early2009 . Section 36 consent was granted in2000 and Reserved Matters were approved in 2005.Langage is the first large power station to be built in the UK for 5 years. More may follow in order to fill the projected 'energy gap' in UK generating capacity, caused by the expected closure of nuclear and older coal-fired stations.
