Richard D. Auman American politician, is the former two-term (1997–2005) mayor of Galena, IL and a past Democratic candidate for the United States House of Representatives, representing the 16th District of Illinois (map). He was challenging 7-term incumbent Donald A. Manzullo for the seat.
Previous to being Mayor of Galena, Auman served as a public school educator in Plymouth, Wisconsin and Algonquin, Illinois, and as a school counselor in Elizabeth, Illinois. He holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville in Platteville, Wisconsin and Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois.
A Marine Veteran, Auman was honorably discharged in 1960 with the rank of E-4 Corporal. [1] Auman is one of the Fighting Dems in favor of the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq. Manzullo voted for the authorization of troops to Iraq.
At the March 21, 2006, FEC filing deadline, Manzullo had outspent Auman 31-to-1. As of the June 30th, 2006 deadline, that difference had fallen to 14-to-1, with more than half (52%) of Manzullo's funding coming from Political action committees. 5% of Auman's funding came from PACs.
