War of 1812 , and was designated as the Watervliet Arsenal in 1817. It occupies 142 acres (57 ha) of land, approximately 8 miles (13 km) north ofAlbany, New York . The location is adjacent to theHudson River . The site contains manufacturing, administrative offices, storage areas, and a museum tracingweapon ry from the 1600s through modern times. It also contains the Army'sBenet Laboratories , which does product development, improvement, research, and testing.RS Albany, the headquarters of a
United States Marine Corps recruiting station, is also housed on the arsenal, as are two United States Army Recruiting Company Headquarters: Albany Recruiting Company Headquarters (1A1) and Catskill Recruiting Company Headquarters (1A3).References
