The Forbes 400 or 400 Richest People (first published in
1982 ) is a list published by "Forbes Magazine " of thewealth iest 400 Americans, ranked bynet worth . The list is the oldest and most well known of the many lists of wealthy people published by Forbes, and is published annually in September. In 2008, the combined wealth of the 400 was $1.57 trillion. The minimum to make the list in 2008 was $1.3 billion, so all of that year's members of the list were billionaires.The 25th anniversary edition in 2007 had 45 new members including
hedge fund managerJohn Paulson ,The Carlyle Group 'sDavid Rubenstein and oil and gas tycoonHarold Hamm . The 2008 list had 31 new members and 8 returnees.The 2008 Forbes 400 was edited by Matthew Miller and Duncan Greenberg.
