Kaavya Viswanathan says she is familiar with the works of Megan McCafferty but the resemblances between those works and her own book are unintentional. Under their proposed bill, illegal immigrants who can prove through utility bills or other documents that they have been in the U.S. for five years or more will in effect receive amnesty and become eligible for permanent residence.
