Formerly, it was named after Count V. V. Orlov-Denisov, a Hero of the 1812 Patriotic War.

Shikhany-2

Shikhansky chemical testing ground ( _ru. Шиханский полигон) keeps a large amount of military poison substances, mainly an obsolete ones like yperite.

Ecological situation

Despite the rumours Shikhany has a better ecology than the nearest big cities. Shikhany are surrounded by the forest and the chemical plant is not working. Tests are rarely conducted, chemical warfare not used.

Infrastructure of Shikhany-2 is faintly developed, only couple of shops in 20 km okrug.
