The third single of L'Arc~en~Ciel vocalist, Hyde's solo project.

It was included as the 6th track of his first solo album, "ROENTGEN". Of the very soft and ballad-orientated album, "SHALLOW SLEEP" was arguably the one that kept the most to HYDE's rock roots.

A version with English lyrics was released on the "Roentgen Overseas album".

The music video of this song was collected with three others from the "ROENTGEN" album and released on DVD as "ROENTGEN STORIES", a heavily symbolic and artistic series of four music videos, with HYDE's three singles featured on "ROENTGEN" and an addition video of another "ROENTGEN" song, "SECRET LETTERS."

Lilies are a classic symbol of death, as is the number 4 in many Asian cultures. Death is a theme which heavily permeates "ROENTGEN". "SHALLOW SLEEP" is perhaps the star of the album, so to speak, with the cover of the case featuring four lilies, displaying the most death symbols of HYDE's first trilogy of singles. Of the other two "EVERGREEN" features a rose, and "ANGEL'S TALE" features two tulips.
