Lisa Garland is a fictional character in the "Silent Hill" franchise. Appearing in Silent Hill and . Some of Lisa's history is left to the gamer to surmise, since they only learn as much as the player character (Harry) knows.

Bio

Lisa Garland is a nurse who worked at Alchemilla Hospital who had aspirations of being an actress. She was addicted to White Claudia, a drug being dealt by the hospital's administrator, Dr. Michael Kaufmann, and Silent Hill's resident cult, The Order. One of Lisa's duties was to take care of coma patient Alessa Gillespie. Alessa's body was covered in burn wounds which would not heal, and were always oozing blood and pus, requiring frequent bandaging. Lisa did not understand what was keeping the girl alive, and the ordeal of constantly replacing the bandages took a toll on her sanity. [Lisa: What is it? Still has an unusually high fever. Eyes don't open... Getting a pulse, but just barely breathing. Her skin is all charred! Even when I change the bandages, the blood and pus just start oozing through! Why? What is keeping that child alive? I... Can't stand it any longer. Konami "Silent Hill" (in English) 1999-1-3 (US)]

Role

When Harry stumbles into the 'Alternate' Hospital, which is full of gore and demonic nurses, Harry finds Lisa huddled in a room hiding from the monsters. She claims that she has no idea what is going on, explaining that she passed out, and when she came to everything was different. [Lisa: Harry, tell me what's happening here. Where is everybody? I must have gotten knocked out. When I came to, everyone was gone. Konami "Silent Hill" (in English) 1999-1-3 (US)] Lisa is a good source of information about Dahlia Gillespie and the old cult that used to reside in the town.

Harry periodically loses consciousness and finds himself back in the Otherworld hospital, without explanation. Interestingly, Lisa does not act startled when he awakens, claiming that he never left and that he was having a bad dream. [Harry: Where am I? Lisa? Then I'm at the hospital? Lisa: You were having a bad dream. Konami "Silent Hill" (in English) 1999-1-3 (US)] During one of these episodes, Harry wakes up with a start and finds himself in the hospital again; Lisa emerges over him with her eye twitching.

During the final paranormal trip through the hospital, Lisa explains to Harry that she ventured into the basement of the hospital and began to "understand" what is happening. [Lisa: I get it now... Why I'm still alive even though everyone else is dead. I'm not the only one who's still walking around. I'm the same as them. I just hadn't noticed it before. Konami "Silent Hill" (in English) 1999-1-3 (US)] Lisa realizes that she is in fact a monster, no different than the other nurses roaming the hospital, explaining how she is trapped in the Otherworld and cannot leave. When she begs Harry to hold her, Harry pushes her away, and Lisa starts bleeding from her head and every orifice. She staggers toward Harry until he runs out of the room. Although she sobs and bangs on the door behind him, Harry is too frightened and holds the door shut.

Harry may reenter Lisa's room if the player wishes, only to find that she is gone. Among her things is her diary; In it, Lisa writes that she can't stand being alone with "that patient" in the basement any more and is going to tell "the Doctor" that she quits. [Lisa's scribbled diary:Ask doctor to let me quit being in charge of that patient. It's too weird. Still alive, but with wounds that won't heal. Told the doctor I quit. Won't work at that hospital anymore. Konami "Silent Hill" (in English) 1999-1-3 (US)] A cryptic video tape which Harry found earlier can now be played if he inserts it into a VCR; The tape recording shows a woman covering her face with her hands (but speaking in Lisa's voice) pleading with an unseen figure and promising she "won't tell a soul".

Lisa does not appear again until the end of the game. If the conditions for earning either the Good or Good+ endings are met, she appears after defeating the final boss; just as Kaufmann is about to escape, a bloodied Lisa rises through the floor and drags the horrified Kaufmann down into the pit she came from.

Other appearances

It has been stated by the game staff that Lisa's soul is still in torment for her actions in the first game, [http://www.translatedmemories.com/bookpgs/Pg92-93.jpg] which is represented by the bound nurse Valtiel is seen torturing in several locations throughout "Silent Hill 3".

Lisa reappears in "" (voiced by Jennifer Woodward), meeting up with its protagonist on more than one occasion. This younger (and perhaps darker) version of Lisa admits to being an aspiring actress, despite descending from a line of nurses, and her relationship with Dr.Kaufmann is questionable. At one point in the game, they are discovered together in the motel, and it is strongly implied that they had finished having sex -- perhaps not only for mutual purposes. Upon further inspection of the room, narcotics can be found.

In "", one of the ghost-victims is named Steve Garland. Whether or not Lisa is related to said character has yet to be confirmed or denied.

Lisa will appear as a main character in the Official Silent Hill graphic novel "Cradle of Cage".Fact|date=August 2007

In "Silent Hill (film)" a character credited as Red Nurse "(played by Emily Lineham)" bears a strong physical resemblance to Lisa and acts in a similar capacity as Alessa's caregiver.
